Job overview

The Undergraduate education team is looking to recruit a highly motivated and skilled staff member to assist in driving high quality clinical skills training delivery throughout the Trust for medical students from various study years attending their clinical placements in the trust.

The post holder will be part of the Medical Education Department's Undergraduate Education team and reporting to the Undergraduate Medical Education Manager/ Director of Clinical Studies/ Director of Undergraduate Education. The post holder will deliver a range of clinical skills training sessions to support the development of clinical competence across the range of medical students in line with agreed medical school curriculum and Trust educational development strategies and priorities. You will ensure the Trust's training, education and development priorities are delivered in a timely manner and support the drive to ensure clinical skills education is delivered to a high-quality standard.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a member of the undergraduate education team and will be responsible for providing teaching and training within the clinical skills lab for undergraduate medical students based at Northwick Park Hospital. This is a varied and rewarding role supporting medical students to improve their competency in clinical skills and offering further support to those who require it.

Main duties of the job:
  • Delivery of clinical skills teaching and practical procedures to undergraduate medical students following Trust and medical schools' guidelines in the Clinical skills room.
  • Effective management of the clinical skills laboratory at Northwick Park Hospital for all medical students on site. Currently at the hospital there are students from two medical schools: Imperial College School of Medicine and Brunel Medical School.
  • Organise and support the local arrangements for all aspects of the undergraduate clinical exams.
  • To act as a role model exploiting every opportunity to enhance the knowledge of others in issues relating to clinical skills and to promote health and safety, clinical excellence, infection control and risk assessment.
  • Collaborate with Teaching Fellows to provide a holistic learning experience to the undergraduate medical students.
  • To continually seek to improve the quality of education using evidence-based practice, liaising with professional colleagues, reviewing literature and evaluating feedback.

Essential criteria
  • Nursing qualification - current registration
Desirable criteria
  • BSc in medical specialty
  • Post Grad Certificate in Medical Education or Healthcare Education
Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Completed basic general nursing
  • Completed training for coaching/ small group discussion/providing feedback
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in teaching or laboratory experience
  • Experience in Critical Care / Emergency Nursing
Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching undergraduate students or as a clinical tutor in practice or university setting
