Job summary
The focus of this post is to provide clinical input and leadership support to the electrical stimulation services, primarily involving the assessment for and monitoring ongoing use of FES to assist walking. The user groups for this are people with neurological impairment of walking, for example MS or stroke

In addition the service collects both video and instrumented gait analysis data; including kinematics, kinetics, EMG and physical examination. The post holder will primarily involved with the observational video gait analysis of inpatients and outpatients, including those in amputee rehabilitation and inpatient neurological rehabilitation patients. All services are delivered alongside Clinical Scientists who provide technical and clinical expertise and will support effective service delivery. There is scope to build into support of the instrumented gait analysis service as the post holder develops their gait analysis skills. They would be responsible for data interpretation and reporting, along with presenting at multidisciplinary meetings where relevant. Data collection sessions are conducted alongside Clinical Scientists who provide technical expertise throughout and will also report and present data at MDTs in a similar way.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the physiotherapy service at St George's Hospital, Queen Mary's Hospital (Roehampton) and St John's Therapy Centre. This post is part of the Neurosciences Highly Specialised Physiotherapy rotation scheme in the following areas: Neurosurgery, Neuro-Outreach, Acute Stroke (HASU and ASU), Tertiary acute neurology, Neuro-outpatients (including vestibular rehabilitation), Community Neuro Team and Neuro-rehabilitation.The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice to people with neurological conditions.

Qualifications and Training
Essential

• Graduate diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
• Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council

Desirable

• Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or IPEM
• Evidence of relevant in-depth postgraduate study or qualification to a level equivalent to a Masters degree where this is available

Experience
Essential

• Minimum 4 years postgraduate experience including 2 years in a relevant clinical area, e.g. neuro rehabilitation
• Experience in the assessment and treatment of neurological conditions
• Experience of successfully contributing to a multidisciplinary team and awareness of the issues that accompany this
• Evidence of effective contribution to service development including service audit
• Experience in the clinical application of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) techniques
• Experience of developing others through CPD/PDP/Clinical supervision
• Membership of relevant clinical interest group, e.g. ACPIN/CMAS/IFESS/APCP/IPEM

Desirable

• Previous experience of working within the NHS
• Evidence of awareness of techniques of clinical (instrumented) gait analysis
• Experience of the use and prescription of orthoses and serial casting
• Experience of the use and prescription of prosthetics
