Engineering Manager Treasury Safeguarding
About the Role
We are looking for a passionate Engineering Manager to join the Treasury Safeguarding team and take ownership of the core critical business functions served by the team.
In this role you will be responsible for the delivery of key initiatives contribute to setting the technical strategy of the team and ensure we build robust and scalable systems while promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
You will have a direct and measurable impact across multiple Wise products owing to the core position of the teams domain.
About the team
The Safeguarding team sits within the Treasury Squad of Finance-Treasury-Pricing Tribe and is responsible for providing accurate reliable and real time systems powering the safety and investment of Customers Funds across various products and jurisdictions. Customers currently hold 25 Billion with us and trust us to protect the funds. The team has a strong focus on risk reduction scalability and growth enablement.
What Youll Do
Youll be a key driver of the teams technical roadmap partnering closely with other functions and other teams within the Finance and Treasury tribe. Your work will directly enable new product features and business growth by ensuring reliability accuracy scalability and regulatory compliance:
Customer Assets Safeguarding: Contribute to automating and scaling our safeguarding solutions for managing the growing customer holdings.
Drive Technical Excellence: Contribute to improving the reliability and scalability of our services through strategic modularisation projects aimed at enhancing the overall health and performance of our systems.
Control and Monitoring: Build additional controls and monitoring to proactively identify and resolve issues with our Safeguarding Ledger reporting calculations and banking integrations ensuring accuracy and completeness of our regulatory obligations.
Grow your Team: Mentor and help engineers in your team to grow whilst helping the team scale as its domain expands.
Lead cross-team initiatives: Collaborate with other product teams to lead key initiatives aimed to reduce risk improve scalability and onboard our products .
Technical Responsibilities
Provide hands-on technical leadership guiding the team on architectural design code reviews and best practices.
Serve as a technical expert for the domain partnering with analytics product and compliance teams to ensure smooth launches.
Drive initiatives to improve the reliability and scalability of our services through strategic modularization projects.
Lead the development of new solutions that improve our speed of execution.
Leadership Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a diverse team of engineers (junior and senior) fostering a supportive environment that promotes technical growth.
Work closely with other Engineering Leads Staff Engineers and Product to shape the teams and squads technical roadmaps.
Help the team navigate complex priorities and make trade-offs to deliver solutions that reduce risk and unlock growth.
Act as a key representative of the team collaborating with stakeholders across the company.
Represent the team in front of internal and external auditors and regulators.
Build and maintain team culture focusing on the impact.
What Were Looking For
Technical Excellence
Strong experience building and scaling complex high-reliability systems
Good understanding of event-driven architecture and idempotency.
Excellent system design and architectural thinking
Ability to simplify complex problems and communicate technical concepts clearly
Comfortable with pair programming and collaborative development
Object-Oriented Programming with strong computer science fundamentals
Product Mindset
Clear understanding of why we build what we build
Focus on solving real customer problems with every feature
Ability to articulate the business value and customer impact of technical decisions
Experience working closely with product and stakeholders to define requirements and prioritise the most impactful work.
Leadership Skills
You are an empathetic leader with a track record of mentoring and coaching engineers.
You can lead by example inspiring your team to produce high-quality maintainable code.
You are an excellent communicator capable of articulating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to balance technical excellence with business priorities
Ideal Background
Experience leading a team in a payments fintech or other complex high-stakes domain.
Prior experience working on a team with a global distributed setup.
Experience building systems that serve enterprise clients at scale.
Previous experience scaling teams and systems for global reach.
Experience at companies with engineering excellence culture
