Optometrist

Due to an internal promotion we are now looking for an optometrist to join our team.
The successful candidate will join a team of 7 optometrists, 10 orthoptists and 4 advanced clinical practitioners. Our most recent NHS Staff Survey showed very positive scores regarding team work and supporting staff. We are looking for an optometrist who is enthusiastic, dedicated, motivated who is a keen learner.
Previous hospital experience, advanced contact lens skill and independent prescribing is desirable. However, we welcome applicants from community optometrists. Banding will be dependent on experience and successful completion of competencies.
Training and support will be provided to develop roles, which will include a wide range of extended practice.
Due to current demand we prefer Monday, Thursday and Friday working. however, we are flexible employers. Denmark Hill will be your base, but you may be given clinics at University Hospital Lewisham or Queen Mary's Sidcup.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a pivotal role within the Optical Services team consisting of Optometrists Orthoptists and advanced clinical practitioners. They will work collaboratively as part of an integrated team, contributing to a unified clinical approach while maintaining professional identity and working within own scope of practice.
Operating at an advanced level, the post holder will provide expert diagnostic assessment and intervention, offering specialist advice within their field.
You will work across an extensive range of specialist services in Ophthalmology, including:
· Independent clinics such as refraction, contact lens, low vision, post-op cataract
· Within consultant led clinics such as glaucoma, retina, paediatrics, cornea, acute/emergency care.
The post holder will also deliver continuous quality improvement initiatives, oversee audits, teaching and ensure that evidence-based practice is embedded in the service.
