A career at Hitachi Rail will help create a legacy. With operations in every corner of the world, our work goes to the cutting-edge of digital transformation and technology. From the multi-cultural strength of our global organisation to the sustainable and innovative ways we work to bring people together, there’s something for everyone to get stuck into. And that’s where you come in.

Your new role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Fire Safety Engineer to join our team in London.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to develop specialist experience in fire safety while contributing to technically complex railway projects within a global organisation.

You will support the management of fire safety requirements and technical documentation, while working closely with internal and external project teams. The position will give you exposure to different areas of the engineering lifecycle and the opportunity to build your knowledge of railway fire safety standards and requirements.

The role offers a varied workload and would suit someone who is self-motivated, analytical and keen to develop a career within a specialist engineering discipline.

Some key responsibilities

  • Support the management of fire safety requirements using DOORS.
  • Manage and maintain fire safety documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external sub-project teams to support the development of assigned project activities.
  • Provide fire safety input and support across railway engineering projects.
  • Coordinate with internal and external resources involved in fire safety design activities.
  • Help ensure that fire safety requirements and project deliverables are managed effectively.
  • Build strong working relationships across engineering and project teams.
  • Undertake occasional short domestic and international business trips where required.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who is keen to build specialist knowledge within fire safety engineering.

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing different priorities and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders across a range of technical disciplines.

You will ideally bring

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a technical diploma with a specialism in mechanics.
  • An analytical and methodical approach to technical work.
  • Strong collaboration and team-working skills.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
  • A results-focused mindset and willingness to take ownership of assigned activities.
  • Written and spoken English
  • Availability for occasional short domestic and overseas travel.

Knowledge of the EN 45545 railway fire-protection standard and Technical Specifications for Interoperability, commonly referred to as TSIs, would be advantageous. Previous experience working on railway vehicle projects would also be beneficial, but not essential.

If you are looking to build your engineering career in a specialist area, develop your technical knowledge and contribute to railway projects within an international organisation, this could be an exciting next step.

What we offer

We value the importance of all of our employees. If you would like to join our fantastic organisation, you could be entitled to:

  • Competitive salary
  • Potential opportunity for annual performance-related bonus
  • 25 days’ holiday

  • Group Income Protection
  • Group Life Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Programme

We also offer additional perks for you to choose from within a flexible plan that will meet your specific needs and lifestyle.
