An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Surgical Division to lead the Practice Development Team in facilitating the learning and continuing development of all nursing staff to ensure that education is responsive to service developments and needs. We are looking for a highly motivated practitioner with expert knowledge and skills in surgical nursing as well as strong clinical leadership. Main duties of the job
Our service comprises of 4 surgical wards (Brunel, Coptcoat, Katherine Monk, Lister Wards) and Outpatients (Willowfield) and Surgical Ambulatory Services (SACU). The Surgical Division is exciting, challenging and innovative and this is a great opportunity for you to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and friendly team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
•To develop and co-ordinate planned educational programmes and opportunities for all multidisciplinary nursing staff within the care group.
• To advise in relation to educational opportunities and assist nurses in developing themselves in accordance with their personal development plan and/or appraisal objectives.
• To support nursing staff in developing clinical competency around specified skills.
• To create, sustain and support an environment where practice development and change can flourish.
• To support Supervisors & Assessors and Preceptors in their role, ensuring that learning opportunities are effectively utilised.
• To promote research awareness by disseminating appropriate evidence-based and research findings relevant to the clinical practice area. To keep the Associate Director of Nursing - Workforce & Practice Development informed of any new nursing research proposals, and on the progress of research studies approved by the Trust R&D and Ethics Committees.
• To work closely with HEI staff and the Associate Director of Nursing - Workforce & Practice Development in contributing to the development and review of speciality-related nursing courses, and in the evaluation of relevant courses in order to help inform Education Commissioning.
• To work collaboratively with HEIs and other Trust colleagues on Education Quality Reviews in relation to the quality of the clinical learning environment.

Qualifications, Experience andSkills
Essential criteria
- Masters or Equivalent, or working towards
- Education qualification e.g. Cert Ed
- Leadership qualification or significant managerial experience (staff management, change management, project management, budget management)
- Full range of IT skills including Excel databases
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across the organisation and with a wide range of staff with differing levels of responsibility and different professional backgrounds
- Able to work with a great degree of flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the service
- Clinical manager/educator/PDN with experience of managing and supporting the induction of new staff and the way staff experience impacts on staff performance and retention
