Planning Support Officer
This is a short term opportunity whilst we seek to fill the position on a permanent basis (recruitment currently underway) within our Planning administration team. The successful candidate will be a good communicator, who is able to deal confidently and professionally with members of the public on the telephone, assist with managing incoming emails, and deal with customer enquiries. Knowledge of the planning system and experience of working in a busy planning department would be an advantage but we are keen to hear from anyone with experience in previous customer facing/communications roles.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to deal with distressed, irate members of the public in a sympathetic and tactful manner.
Communication skills to deal with customers face to face, over the phone and in written format.
Ability to work without the need for regular supervision.
Ability to work self-confidently and flexibly as a member of a team.
Ability to respond positively to peaks in work pressure.
Ability to use a computer keyboard and mouse
KNOWLEDGE
Clear understanding of equal opportunities issues in service delivery.
Clear understanding of the use of quality standards.
Ability to acquire a good understanding of the Council’s telephony and relevant IT packages
EXPERIENCE
Proven experience of dealing with the public in a mixed linguistic and cultural environment.
Experience in working in a call centre or dealing with a range of customer enquiries.
Experience of operating, updating, and retrieving data from an IT system.
Experience of reviewing procedures and assisting with implementing improvements
Experience of using basic IT software including Outlook
