We are recruiting a reliable Caretaker for a popular school in Southwark. The Caretaker vacancy starts January 2026, with a comprehensive induction and handover taking place before January 2026 to ensure the successful candidate is fully briefed. As Caretaker in Southwark you will be the visible site lead for staff, pupils and visitors and will help maintain a secure, well-presented environment.

Contract: Permanent / Term-time or Full-time (school dependent)
About the role
The Caretaker will perform daily safety checks, undertake preventative maintenance, manage basic repairs and coordinate third-party contractors. The Caretaker will also oversee grounds maintenance, ensure entrances and pathways are clear and support lettings and school events across Southwark. Accurate completion of logbooks and health & safety paperwork will be expected from the Caretaker.
Key responsibilities
Undertake daily security routines and complete pre-opening and closing checks.
Perform routine building repairs and report larger issues promptly.
Supervise and liaise with contractors, manage deliveries and maintain inventories.
Maintain external areas and ensure safe access during adverse weather.
Support events, room setups and lettings as required by the Southwark school.
Person specification
Practical caretaking or facilities experience with a strong ‘can-do’ attitude.
Confident handling of basic plumbing, decorating or joinery tasks, with health & safety knowledge.
Able to manage workload, prioritise tasks and work flexibly across Southwark sites.
Available to start January 2026 and to attend induction before January 2026.
