The MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) is a biomedical research institute where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. About the role
We are seeking an experienced Postdoctoral Research Scientist, Structural Biologist, who will be responsible for investigating the structural mechanism of ATP-dependent chromatin remodelling complexes. The post holder will join an internationally-leading team of scientists in the Single-Molecule Biophysics Group using world-class single-molecule facilities and will work closely with collaborating research groups and industry partners. In addition, the post-holder will be responsible for conducting the expression and purification of ATP-dependent chromatin remodelling enzymes, sample preparation for cryo-electron microscopy experiments, cryo-electron microscopy imaging and data analysis, model building, interoperating structural data to elucidate biological mechanisms, obtaining high-quality data, and supporting and training other lab members.
About You
You will need a PhD and be able to demonstrate extensive and direct practical experience in cryo-electron microscopy sample preparation, data processing and model building, with a strong track record of publications and presentations at meetings. You will have proven ability in structural biology and biochemistry, and have applied structural and biochemical based techniques to cutting-edge biological problems. Extensive experience in single-particle cryo-electron microscopy, biochemical techniques, the use of insect-cell based expression systems, and purification of multi-subunit protein complexes are essential. Additionally, experience working in protein-DNA interactions is essential. While experience with working with ATP-dependent chromatin remodelling enzymes is desirable. Previous experience with collaborating with single-molecule biophysicist to produce a strong track record of publications is also desirable.

*Additional allowances comprise a £1,000 lump sum Settlement Allowance plus a yearly Training Allowance of £850 in the first year, paid in monthly instalments. The Training Allowance increases to £1,300 in year two and £1,800 in the third year.
