Media & Communications Manager

We are proud to be partnered with a leading children's charity to support their search for a Media and Communications Manager (Influencing).

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with Policy and Public Affairs teams to track political developments across Westminster and devolved nations, translating policy into media opportunities to position the charity as a thought leader.

• Find creative ways to amplify the charity's voice on issues affecting their service users, promoting powerful stories across media channels.

• Provide line management and support to direct reports, helping them grow, adopt new tools and technology, and continuously develop.

• Help run a modern, proactive press office, handling daily media enquiries, out-of-hours duty rotas, and reputational risk management.

• Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and internal spokespeople, assisting with spokesperson training.

• Lead on media planning for high-profile national campaigns alongside internal marketing, digital, and fundraising teams.

• Write high-quality press releases, opinion pieces, statements, and social media copy.

Person Specifications

• Strong track record of working alongside policy or public affairs teams to translate complex issues into engaging media coverage, pitch stories, and drive policy-led campaigns.

• Demonstrable experience managing direct reports, with a focus on developing team members, managing performance, and guiding staff through adopting new working practices and technology.

• Proven ability to build strong media contacts, spot proactive opportunities, and deliver high-impact coverage.

• An "outside the box" mindset with the confidence to advise internal stakeholders, make clear decisions, and prepare spokespeople for robust media interactions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience handling sensitive topics and reputational risks calmly and accurately.

What's on Offer:

A salary of £40,000-£45,000 FTE
Full time role, flexible working, monthly travel to London, plus travel for meetings etc.
An FTC until June 2027, starting ASAP
