About the Role

The London Borough of Redbridge is seeking a motivated and experienced Housing Solutions Officer to join its dedicated Housing Solutions Team. This role plays a vital part in delivering high-quality housing advice and homelessness prevention services, supporting some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents.

Working within local hospitals and mental health facilities in Ilford, you will help reduce homelessness through proactive prevention, effective casework, and partnership working. You will advise and assist households in housing need, identify sustainable housing options, and ensure compliance with the Housing Act 1996, the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and all related legislation.

Key Responsibilities

Provide professional housing advice and interventions to prevent or relieve homelessness.

*

Conduct detailed homelessness assessments, investigations, and decision-making in line with statutory duties.

*

Develop, monitor, and implement Personalised Housing Plans in partnership with customers.

*

Negotiate with landlords, accommodation providers, and partner agencies to secure suitable housing outcomes.

*

Maintain accurate case records, reports, and data for statutory returns and management reporting.

*

Work collaboratively with colleagues, social care, health professionals, and voluntary agencies to achieve positive housing solutions.

*

Contribute to reducing the use and cost of temporary accommodation.

About You

You will bring strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, alongside the ability to work independently in a busy, customer-facing environment. You will have a comprehensive understanding of housing and homelessness legislation and experience working with vulnerable customers in housing need.

Essential Skills and Experience:

In-depth knowledge of homelessness and housing legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

*

Proven experience providing housing advice, conducting homelessness assessments, and case management.

*

Strong negotiation and advocacy skills with landlords, agencies, and service users.

*

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft statutory decision letters.

*

Experience working with vulnerable clients, including those with mental health needs, substance misuse, or complex support requirements.

*

Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage a demanding caseload effectively.

*

IT literacy and proficiency in case management systems.

Additional Information

*

This is a frontline role requiring a minimum of three days per week on-site at hospitals and mental health facilities in Ilford.

*

Flexibility to work outside normal office hours may occasionally be required.

*

A Basic DBS check will be required for this role.
