We are working with a specialist SEN provision to recruit an experienced KS1 / KS2 SEN Teacher to join a dedicated team supporting pupils with complex social communication and autism-related needs .
This role sits within a separate adapted curriculum provision , designed for pupils who require a low-arousal, highly structured and therapeutic learning environment.
The Setting
The provision supports pupils across primary and early secondary phases , with small class sizes (maximum of 6 pupils) and a strong emphasis on communication, emotional regulation and functional learning.
Teaching is underpinned by a functional, hands-on curriculum , with communication at the centre of everything. Staff work closely within a multi-disciplinary team , including therapists and specialist support staff, to deliver a genuinely holistic educational experience.

he Role
You will be responsible for planning, teaching and delivering an adapted KS1 / KS2 curriculum , supporting pupils to develop core communication, literacy, numeracy and life skills.
Working alongside an experienced MDT, you will design schemes of work that focus on independence, functional learning and emotional wellbeing , rather than purely academic outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver an adapted, functional KS1 / KS2 curriculum
Teach pupils with complex social communication needs and autism
Create and deliver schemes of work aligned to a functional curriculum framework
Use structured communication approaches to support learning and regulation
Manage and support a small class group in a low-arousal environment
Promote positive behaviour through consistent, nurturing practice
Work collaboratively with therapists, support staff and families
Essential Experience & Skills
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
Minimum 2 years post-qualification teaching experience
Experience delivering KS1 / KS2 curriculum (literacy and numeracy foundations)
Experience working with pupils with SEN, particularly autism
Strong classroom organisation and behaviour support skills
Clear, confident written and spoken English
Desirable Experience
Experience teaching an adapted or functional curriculum
Familiarity with frameworks such as:
Functional or life-skills-based curricula
Structured communication approaches (e.g. AAC / symbol-supported communication)
Experience supporting pupils with complex or challenging behaviours
Confidence working in highly structured, therapeutic environments
