Staff Nurse - Philip Isaac Unit
Job overview
Working in a paediatric day unit offers a unique and rewarding professional experience, as it allows you to support young children and their families during challenging times. If you are someone with a passion for making a difference and would like to join a dynamic team, then this opportunity is for you.
As you are aware, these times can be particularly difficult for patients and their families. Providing holistic care can play a key role in aiding recovery and supporting successful medical interventions.
This day unit enables patients to receive necessary treatments while maintaining the ability to return to their daily lives—participating in school, college, sports, and other commitments.
On the Philip Isaac Unit, you will have the opportunity to build on your existing skills, helping to ensure that this nurse-led unit is managed safely and effectively by the team. Many patients are able to receive treatment and be discharged on the same day.
The unit is best suited for a nurse who is prepared for a fast-paced environment with visible and immediate outcomes.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role include assisting in the delivery of expert nursing care for individuals with specialist needs, while also providing professional nursing advice and support to patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals from diagnosis through to treatment.
You will be expected to ensure continuity of high-quality, evidence-based nursing care by assessing the health, nursing, and health-related needs of patients, their families, and carers. As a competent nurse, you will be responsible for managing your own caseload under supervision, contributing to the delivery of a seamless service through multidisciplinary team (MDT) processes and effective communication.
To support the delivery of holistic care, you will actively engage with service users to gather feedback on their experiences and suggestions for service improvements. You will also participate in the development of appropriate Patient Group Directives (PGDs) to facilitate and enhance the discharge process, helping shape the unit into a truly nurse-led service.
Finally, you will act as a resource for others by providing accurate information, advice, and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients, and their families. This includes signposting and offering relevant educational literature to help patients and carers make informed choices about their treatment plans.
