School Type: Secondary School & Sixth Form (Co-educational)

An Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ secondary school located in the vibrant, rapidly developing London Borough of Newham is seeking a dynamic, inquisitive, and forward-thinking Teacher of Geography to join their high-achieving Humanities faculty. This is a premier opportunity for an ambitious educator, whether an experienced geography practitioner looking to teach in a top-performing inner-London academic environment or a talented Early Career Teacher (ECT), to inspire environmental curiosity, spatial awareness, and global inquiry across a passionate student body.

About the Role

As a Teacher of Geography, you will bring physical landforms, human demographics, global trade dynamics, and climate issues to life. Teaching across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE Geography), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Geography), you will combine modern GIS mapping technology, contemporary case studies, and field research methods to help pupils analyze the complex interactions shaping our changing planet.

  • Start Date: Immediate or upcoming term

  • Environment: A flagship inner-London secondary school celebrated for high academic progress, exceptional social mobility, and state-of-the-art humanities learning facilities

  • Culture: A collaborative, scholarly, and supportive working environment backed by experienced subject specialists, rich digital resources, and an encouraging leadership team

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver creative, high-rigor Geography lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 that foster critical evaluation, data interpretation, and analytical essay-writing skills.

  • Prepare students thoroughly for national GCSE and A-Level examinations, using data-driven tracking, targeted feedback, and exam technique workshops to maximize student outcomes.

  • Design and facilitate hands-on physical and human geography fieldwork experiences across London and the UK, embedding real-world data collection into the curriculum.

  • Integrate cutting-edge geographical tools—such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), satellite imagery, and environmental modeling—into daily classroom practice.

  • Assess, track, and monitor pupil progress, offering actionable guidance to stretch high attainers while building confidence in developing geographers.

  • Lead or contribute to departmental enrichment, including eco-clubs, sustainability initiatives, geographical debate societies, and university preparation masterclasses.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.

  • A strong academic degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, or a closely related discipline.

  • Proven track record or demonstrated capability of delivering outstanding Geography teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (KS5/A-Level experience is highly desirable).

  • Thorough knowledge of national Geography specifications and examination board requirements (e.g., AQA, Edexcel, OCR).

  • Outstanding classroom leadership, spatial awareness, and an infectious enthusiasm for physical and human geography.

Salary & Benefits

  • Pay Scale: Inner London MPS/UPS pay scale (commensurate with experience), with potential TLR opportunities available for key stage coordination or whole-school sustainability leadership.

  • Comprehensive continuous professional development (CPD), structured mentoring programmes, and clear pathways for rapid career advancement in an Outstanding school environment.

How to Apply
