Secondary School - Thamesmead Area
Full Time | Permanent | September 2026 Start We are seeking an ambitious, inspirational, and experienced Head of English to lead our successful English department at a thriving secondary school in the Thamesmead area. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate English specialist with a strong track record of raising attainment and delivering outstanding teaching across Key Stages 3-5. The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader committed to academic excellence, curriculum innovation, and ensuring every student develops a love of literature and language. The Role The Head of English will: Lead and manage the English department across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Drive high standards of teaching, learning, and achievement
Develop an engaging and ambitious English curriculum
Support and develop staff through coaching and professional development
Monitor student progress and implement effective intervention strategies
Promote a culture of high expectations and inclusive practice The Successful Candidate Will Have: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
A degree in English or a related subject
Proven experience teaching English at KS5
Strong leadership or middle leadership experience within a secondary setting
A track record of improving outcomes and student engagement
Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
