Royal Mail Farringdon Hybrid working in London Farringdon x3 days a week
Royal Mail is embarking on one of the most significant technology transformations in its history. Our Future ERP programme will replace fragmented, end‑of‑life systems with a modern, integrated SAP landscape that transforms how our organisation operates. Within HR, this includes the implementation of SuccessFactors Employee Central (EC) and Employee Central Payroll (ECP) , covering Core HR, Payroll, Onboarding, Compensation & Variable Pay, and a new document management capability.
We are now seeking an exceptional Technology Programme Manager to lead the end‑to‑end delivery of this HR ERP transformation — ensuring complex, multi‑year SAP delivery translates into real business outcomes: simpler processes, improved employee experience, compliant and resilient payroll, and a unified enterprise data model.
This is a rare opportunity to shape a once‑in‑a‑generation transformation at national scale.
The Role
As Technology Programme Manager, you will:
Lead the HR ERP Technology Programme
- Own the full technology delivery lifecycle for the HR ERP programme, ensuring alignment to Royal Mail’s strategic objectives.
- Mobilise the programme, define delivery tranches and workstreams, and maintain a clear, integrated roadmap across HR, Payroll, Finance, Data, and Integration.
- Set programme‑level objectives, success measures, milestones, and dependencies.
Drive Investment, Planning & Benefits
- Build robust investment cases with clear estimates, resource plans, risks, assumptions, and timelines.
- Maintain traceability between technology outputs and HR business outcomes, including process simplification, payroll accuracy, compliance, and employee experience.
- Lead programme‑level benefits realisation planning and tracking.
Ensure Governance, Control & Assurance
- Establish and run programme governance aligned to Royal Mail standards, including reporting to senior forums.
- Create the conditions for Project Managers to deliver effectively through strong initiation, scope control, integrated planning, financial management, and risk/issue management.
- Ensure appropriate assurance for payroll‑critical and people‑impacting releases.
Lead Stakeholders, Suppliers & Commercials
- Build trusted relationships with senior HR, Finance, and Technology leaders to drive timely decision‑making.
- Engage closely with Cyber Security, Architecture, Service Management, Test, Data & Engineering, Procurement, and Legal.
- Provide senior leadership across System Integrators and software vendors, ensuring value for money and high‑quality delivery.
Develop People & Capability
- Lead and develop programme teams, including line management where required.
- Recruit and retain high‑calibre delivery talent.
- Mentor Project Managers and Business Analysts to build capability and consistency.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across Technology Delivery.
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for a seasoned programme leader with:
- A track record of delivering large‑scale technology programmes or portfolios , with clear accountability for outcomes and benefits.
- Experience delivering ERP or major enterprise platforms (SAP preferred) in complex, regulated environments.
- Strong strategic thinking, able to translate HR and Payroll target states into executable delivery roadmaps.
- Exceptional leadership skills — credible, influential, and able to align business, technology, and suppliers around shared goals.
- Strong financial, commercial, and risk management capability at programme scale.
- Experience in environments where payroll accuracy, data integrity, and compliance are mission critical.
- Outstanding communication skills, able to brief and influence senior and executive stakeholders.
- A pragmatic, resilient, outcome‑focused approach, comfortable operating amid ambiguity and change.
Why Join Royal Mail?
- Lead a once‑in‑a‑generation ERP transformation with national impact.
- Work at the heart of a programme that will modernise how Royal Mail supports its people.
- Operate in a high‑profile, senior leadership role with visibility across the organisation.
- Shape the future of HR technology, data, and processes for one of the UK’s most recognised brands.
- Join a collaborative, purpose‑driven environment committed to continuous improvement and innovation.
