Employee Relations Specialist
Flatpay is one of Europe's fastest-growing fintech companies and we've recently launched in the UK.
Role: Employee Relations Specialist
Location: 5 days a week, London
Reports to: Senior People Partner
Own and manage the day-to-day ER caseload for the UK, while shaping the policies, frameworks, and manager capability that prevent issues arising in the first place.
Responsibilities
Own the ER policy suite (conduct, grievance, absence, capability), reviewing and updating proactively when employment law, case precedent, or business need requires it.
Manage grievances and disciplinaries end to end: investigations, hearings, outcome letters, and PIPs, applying policy consistently and fairly.
Own the sickness and absence process end to end, stepping in on long-term or complex cases and managing occupational health referrals and reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act.
Partner with Legal (Neathouse Partners) on live cases and horizon-scanning: new legislation, tribunal trends, and areas of emerging risk.
Design and deliver manager capability programmes that build lasting confidence in handling conduct, absence, and performance conversations early.
Analyse caseload trends quarterly and present findings and recommended interventions to the Senior People Partner.
Build and maintain a case management framework that is consistent, auditable, and scalable as the business grows.
Skills and Attributes
Strong, current knowledge of UK employment law and the judgement to apply it commercially rather than just by the book.
Confident drafting investigation reports, outcome letters, and PIPs to a high standard.
Credible at coaching managers: builds their capability rather than simply taking the case off their hands.
Solution-led: escalates with options and a clear read on cost and risk.
Calm, fair, and decisive under pressure, comfortable owning a busy caseload and moving it at pace.
Comfortable presenting data-led insight and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
Our Values
At Flatpay, how we work matters as much as what we achieve.
Happy Humans: We bring energy to our work and create teams people enjoy being part of.
No Assholes: We perform at a high level while treating colleagues and customers with respect.
It's Our Business, Own It: Everyone takes responsibility and manages their work like it's their own business.
Start With No: We challenge ideas, think commercially and focus on what truly creates value.
Sky-High Ambitions: We set bold goals and expect people to keep raising the bar.
The Best Argument Wins: Titles don't decide outcomes. We debate openly to reach the best decisions.
Background and Requirements
Solid ER experience owning cases end to end (grievances, disciplinaries, sickness and absence) in a fast-paced environment.
Experience shaping or owning ER policy, not just applying it.
Familiarity with occupational health, reasonable adjustments, and settlement or protected conversations is a plus.
Experience in a high-volume, sales-led, or fast-scaling business is a plus.
Fluent in English.
Right to work in the UK (unfortunately we can't offer visa sponsorship right now).
Hiring Process
Application Review: Our Talent Team reviews your CV to assess experience and potential fit.
Talent Screen: A conversation to understand your background and ER experience.
Final Interview: With the Senior People Partner.
