Summary:

Summary

Minerva Virtual Academy (MVA) is the UK’s fastest-growing online school, delivering innovative, flexible, and high-quality education to students aged 11–18 across the UK and internationally. Recognised by OFSTED and trusted by families, schools, and local authorities, we are reimagining the learning experience for the digital age.

Hybrid is the partnerships arm of MVA, supporting other institutions - independent and international schools, school groups, and sports organisations - to provide the best education opportunities for the young people in their care. Members of the Hybrid Faculty teach students remotely, in a variety of different settings.

As a Subject Teacher in the MVA Hybrid Faculty, you will inspire and support students through engaging, impactful online lessons tailored to individual needs. You’ll combine subject expertise with creative use of technology to spark curiosity, drive progress, and ensure every learner thrives in our virtual classroom. Working in close collaboration with the Head of Hybrid, you will contribute to an ambitious, forward-thinking curriculum and be part of a community that champions innovation, inclusivity, and excellence.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, mission-driven team at the forefront of online education - ideal for teachers who are passionate about their subject, confident in digital learning tools, and committed to helping every student achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure familiarity with VLP course content, uploading live lesson resources to modules in advance of lessons taking place.

  • Ensure familiarity with student baseline data and individual needs and circumstances.

  • Plan, prepare and teach impactful live lessons, taking into account the individual needs and circumstances of students.

  • Ensure highly competent working knowledge of, and deploy appropriately in live lessons, a range of tech tools and teaching approaches to stimulate active engagement by all students.

  • Undertake marking of work submitted by students assigned to them, and provide timely feedback.

  • Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of the students assigned to them via the Partner Portal and within the guidelines provided in the Staff Zone.

  • Plan, prepare and assess internal assessments in line with the schedule outlined.

  • Plan the scheduling of formal examinations carefully and in discussion with the Head of Hybrid and partner leaders, ensuring students and their support network are fully aware and have plenty of notice.

  • Meet deadlines and requirements for feedback to partners in line with the tracking and reporting schedule outlined in the Staff Zone.

  • Contribute subject-specific feedback on students when requested for the purposes of internal/SEND assessments, as well as UCAS and other references if appropriate.

  • Attend occasional partner meetings relating to students they teach.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, training and professional sharing sessions, as well as one-to-ones with their line manager, which provide opportunities both for the exchange of views and professional development.

  • Carry out the administrative tasks and duties outlined in the Staff Zone and as advised by the Head of Hybrid.

  • Enhance and develop the curriculum, in consultation with the Head of Hybrid, to ensure a thoroughly-grounded, broad-ranging and forward-looking programme of study, contributing to Schemes of Work as appropriate.

  • Participate actively and reflectively in processes for staff appraisal, development and training.

  • Maintain efficient and timely communication with students, colleagues and partner contacts via email, Canvas Inbox and, internally, Google Chat.

  • Ensure familiarity with school systems, including but not limited to: iSAMS [School Management System]; the Virtual Learning Platform; live lesson software (Big Blue Button); the Partner Portal; and use these in line with instructions.

  • Always work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies.

  • Promote, through action, the safeguarding of all students in the school - sharing low-level concerns and reporting incidents in line with guidance.

Please note that this list is not exhaustive and subject teachers may from time to time be asked to complete other reasonable duties.

Candidate requirements

  • As this is a remote role, you will be required to have a suitable home-working set-up which should include a laptop/desktop computer and internet connection. This is the responsibility of all faculty employees.

  • All remote employees are required to agree to our policies, including agreeing to cyber security software.

  • MVA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). As part of our Safer Recruitment Policy, online searches will also be carried out as part of due diligence checks ahead of any interviews.

Notices

  • We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.

  • We will not accept CV's for faculty roles; you must submit your interest via the online application only.
