Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday 8:30am–3:30pm
Salary: £500–£600 per week

This top-performing secondary school in Merton is looking for an English Graduate Teaching Assistant to join its thriving English department in September 2025. As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant , you will work alongside inspiring teachers to nurture a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking across KS3 and KS4. You’ll gain the chance to apply your academic knowledge in real classrooms, supporting learners of all abilities and preparing yourself for a future career in teaching.

Key Responsibilities

As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant , you will:

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and challenging English lessons across KS3 and KS4

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support in reading, writing, and analysis

  • Help pupils stay focused and motivated, ensuring excellent progress in English

  • Assist with lesson planning, classroom organisation, and preparation of resources

  • Contribute to enrichment activities such as debating, creative writing clubs, and school drama performances

  • Be a positive role model, inspiring students to develop a lifelong passion for English

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal English Graduate Teaching Assistant will:

  • Hold (or be predicted) a 2:1 or higher in English Literature, English Language, or a related degree

  • Have a genuine enthusiasm for English and the ability to communicate that passion to young people

  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Show initiative, patience, and a proactive approach to learning support

  • Have an interest in teacher training or education as a long-term career path

  • Bring experience of working with young people (desirable but not essential)
