CCTV Operations Officer
3 Month Contract with A Local Authority
Job Summary:
The CCTV Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the CCTV control room and ensuring the effective monitoring, recording, and response to all security-related incidents. This role includes managing a team of CCTV operators, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards (e.g. GDPR and SIA regulations), and maintaining the integrity and performance of surveillance systems across multiple sites or facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, supervise, and coordinate the daily activities of the CCTV control room and team.
Ensure continuous surveillance coverage and immediate response to incidents, alarms, and emergencies.
Monitor and manage system uptime, footage quality, and storage capacity.
Train, schedule, and manage CCTV operators, including performance reviews and disciplinary actions when necessary.
Ensure staff compliance with operating procedures, data protection laws, and internal policies.
Maintain staffing levels to meet operational needs, including during weekends or public holidays.
Ensure all CCTV operations comply with relevant SIA licensing, GDPR, and local authority codes of practice.
Oversee secure handling, storage, and retrieval of footage for investigations, law enforcement, or legal purposes.
Maintain audit trails of all surveillance activities and footage access.
Oversee the real-time reporting and escalation of security incidents, ensuring accurate documentation.
Coordinate with internal departments, emergency services, and law enforcement as required.
Prepare incident reports and ensure follow-ups are completed appropriately.
Work with IT and external vendors to maintain and upgrade CCTV systems, software, and hardware.
Conduct regular audits, system checks, and preventative maintenance schedules.
Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements or additional coverage.
Requirements
Education: Minimum of GCSEs or equivalent; relevant security or management qualifications preferred.
Experience: 3+ years of experience in CCTV operations or security surveillance.
Licensing: Valid SIA CCTV License (essential).
Strong working knowledge of surveillance technologies, data protection laws (GDPR), and incident management.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
IT literate with experience in CCTV software platforms, reporting tools, and data management.
