Senior Software Engineer – Java (Customer Service Back Office | Online Gambling | Leadership Path)
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong Java backend expertise and an interest in full-stack development, to support the evolution of our customer service back office systems within the online gambling domain. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving operational problems, building scalable internal tools, and mentoring others — all while contributing to Agile delivery and continuous improvement.
You'll help shape the systems that empower our customer support agents, fraud teams, and compliance analysts to serve millions of players efficiently, securely, and in line with regulatory requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
Engineering & Development
- Design and implement reliable and maintainable services using Java (Spring Boot, Maven) for internal systems supporting customer operations (e.g. player account management, transaction review, KYC tooling, case workflows).
- Contribute to the front end of internal tools using ReactJS, TypeScript, and modern UI practices, optimizing usability for customer service and operations staff.
- Maintain and improve our CI/CD pipelines, using tools like GitLab CI, Docker, and Kubernetes to streamline deployment and automation.
- Write high-quality, testable code using TDD/BDD practices to ensure confidence and speed in regulated environments.
- Apply software design patterns and architecture best practices to ensure modular, reusable, and compliant systems.
Platform Resilience & Compliance
- Collaborate with InfoSec and compliance stakeholders to implement secure coding, access controls, and data handling protocols.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and error metrics to proactively detect and resolve issues affecting internal user workflows.
- Participate in incident analysis and response, particularly for customer-impacting back office issues (e.g. agent tool outages, case queue slowdowns).
Agile Delivery & Team Collaboration
- Work within an Agile product team focused on back-office enablement, contributing to planning, refinement, and retrospectives.
- Translate stakeholder requirements (from operations, CS, or compliance teams) into scalable technical solutions.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, and end users to understand use cases and pain points.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as a technical mentor within the team, reviewing code, promoting standards, and coaching other developers.
- Help improve team workflows, tooling, and development processes in line with DevOps and Agile principles.
- Contribute to technical design discussions and architectural decisions that improve team autonomy and delivery speed.
What You'll Bring
Must-Have Skills
- Strong experience in Java backend development using frameworks like Spring Boot, along with Maven, JUnit, and REST APIs.
- Familiarity with ReactJS and TypeScript, especially in building intuitive UIs for internal tools or dashboards.
- Proven ability to work in Agile teams delivering backend and full-stack features in production.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Practical experience with test automation, observability, and secure development practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical peers and operational stakeholders.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience in the online gambling, fintech, or regulated tech domains.
- Familiarity with customer service tooling, case management platforms, or workflow engines.
- Knowledge of event-driven architecture (Kafka or equivalent).
- Exposure to SQL/NoSQL databases, Elasticsearch, and audit-compliant logging practices.
- Experience mentoring others or taking on informal team leadership.
