The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Expatriate Tax Manager with fluency in Japanese to join our Japanese Integrated Mobility team. We’re looking for a strategic thinker with strong technical knowledge, a commercial mindset, and a passion for delivering excellence. In this dynamic and client-facing role, you will:

• Lead advisory services for our Japanese clients on a broad range of international mobility and expatriate tax matters
• Manage complex global tax projects with a strategic, solutions-focused approach
• Deliver exceptional service to some of the world’s most prominent multinational organisations

You will take ownership of a diverse client portfolio, supporting both inbound assignees to the UK and outbound UK expatriates. Your responsibilities will include:

• Overseeing tax compliance and advisory work
• Building trusted, long-term relationships with clients
• Providing strategic insights to help clients manage their globally mobile workforce efficiently

As part of a highly integrated team, you'll collaborate with specialists in personal tax, employment tax, immigration, and global reward to deliver end-to-end mobility solutions tailored to client needs.

What You’ll Do

• Manage a diverse portfolio of inbound and outbound expatriate tax clients.
• Provide expert guidance on international tax compliance, advisory, and mobility strategies.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
• Lead the delivery of high-quality mobility tax projects, ensuring technical excellence.
• Collaborate across EY’s service lines and global teams to identify new mobility opportunities.
• Proactively drive business development, identifying opportunities for growth.
• Coach, mentor, and develop junior team members, shaping the future of the practice.
• Stay ahead of regulatory and technological developments, helping to innovate our services.

Key Responsibilities

• Experience in Japanese expatriate tax market, mobility compliance, and tax advisory.
• Strong technical skills with a keen eye for detail and continuous improvement.
• Excellent communicator with the ability to engage clients at all levels.
• Proven leadership and project management abilities, able to handle multiple priorities.
• Strategic mindset, with commercial awareness of broader business issues.
• A team player who thrives in a collaborative environment.
• Ability to manage risk, carry out effective reviews, and escalate when necessary.

Qualifications:

• Relevant qualifications (ATT/ACA/CA/ACCA/CTA/Law or equivalent).
