About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF TIFFENY’S POWERFUL VOICE

At Westminster City Council, we don’t just listen to the voices and experiences of our residents – we listen to our people too. Tiffeny is a single mum whose young son has ADHD and before joining our team, she never thought she’d find a job that gave her flexibility and freedom to support her son’s needs. As a neurodivergent woman herself, she also never expected to be part of a team that not only supports her needs, but actively celebrates them – where people encourage her to be her true self. And that’s what she found here at the City of Westminster.

Working as an Engagement Officer within the corporate property team means that she gets to meet people from all walks of life within the community supporting the development of positive change, especially being the voice for young people where it matters – in education, training, or employment. Her experiences and her amazing ability to relate to others means that within the first few months of joining our team, she’d already made a huge impact on things like accessibility in the Borough. Tiffeny feels heard and that’s because we know how important it is to listen.

The Role:

As Asbestos Compliance Officer, you too can make a powerful contribution. You will harness your expertise to shape how asbestos is managed in our portfolio, ensuring that all our buildings are compliant with statutory obligations.

Westminster is home to 250,000 diverse residents, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people working here every day. Our mission is to create a city for all. We’re also passionate about seeing our employees thrive. That’s why we’re proud to have won Best Health & Wellbeing Initiative in the 2020/21 Business Culture Awards. You’ll be joining the small statutory team, we value working with data and finding out the impact we’ve had on our community.

In this position, you’ll gain asbestos management experience across high-profile and historic buildings. As an industry professional, you’ll bring a strong background in asbestos surveyance, management, health and safety. You’ll be skilled in identifying issues and coming up with solutions. We’d also like you to be an advocate for better ways of asbestos management.

On a regular basis, you’ll conduct site audits and inspections, updating the Technical Assurance Lead with findings. You’ll ensure that asbestos labelling is accurate and up to date across our sites. Alongside this, you’ll review asbestos-related processes, review and issue permits to work. You’ll also support contract oversight, quality assurance, policy updates and statutory reporting, helping ensure our approach remains robust and compliant.

A large part of your role will be data management. You’ll oversee the migration of asbestos data from a previous database to WCC’s CAFM system. Plus, you’ll review historic data, identifying any gaps and providing recommendations.

Join our inclusive, supportive team and have a meaningful impact on asbestos management in Westminster City Council.

Please refer to the for more information.

About You:

We’re looking for someone confident working with a large, complex portfolio of buildings, including carrying out site audits. You’ve worked on projects that fall under the Construction, Design and Management (CDM) Regulations 2015. You’ve managed delivery survey programmes, re-inspections, remedial works and asbestos contracts. Analysing and managing complex asbestos data comes easy to you. And you’re comfortable using IT systems for monitoring and reporting. You’re able to understand complex asbestos reports and identify where further actions are required.

To do well here, you’ll be happy working independently and as part of a team. You can manage your own workload and prioritise to meet deadlines.

An excellent communicator, you’ll be skilled at writing and presenting. And you’re excellent at stakeholder management.

You’ll bring a relevant qualification in surveying asbestos to BOHS P402 level or equivalent. It would be strongly preferred for you to have a relevant qualification in workplace health and safety to NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent, too.
