Overview:
First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Field Service Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.
This is an exciting opportunity for a technically minded engineer to join a specialist team supporting customers across the world, working on naval vessels, commercial vessels and shore-based systems.
The role will involve travelling internationally to carry out installation, commissioning, fault-finding, troubleshooting and acceptance testing, alongside providing technical support to customers and assisting with training.
Our client would be particularly interested in candidates from a Royal Navy background, especially those with experience in marine engineering, electrical systems, communications or technical equipment maintenance. This experience could provide an excellent foundation for transitioning into a civilian field service engineering role.
Candidates with relevant field service or technical engineering experience from other backgrounds will also be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Travel throughout the UK and overseas to service naval vessels, commercial vessels and shore-based systems.
- Carry out installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and acceptance testing.
- Diagnose technical issues and provide effective solutions in the field.
- Work towards delivering customer training on relevant equipment and systems.
- Complete detailed service reports and expense claims accurately and promptly.
- Communicate technical issues and findings to line management.
- Provide technical assistance through the customer services helpdesk when office-based.
- Respond to customer enquiries and contribute to technical advice documentation.
- Follow all relevant health and safety procedures.
- Complete technical training as required.
- Maintain high standards of quality, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in a field service or technical engineering environment; marine experience would be advantageous.
- Royal Navy experience, particularly within marine engineering or technical trades, would be highly desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and documentation.
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software and networking.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, adaptable and comfortable working independently.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Valid passport and willingness to undertake regular international travel.
- ONC qualification or equivalent would be advantageous, but is not essential.
- Willingness to work towards a Tower Climbing and Rescue Certificate.
- Candidates must be physically capable of carrying toolkits weighing up to 10kg, climbing stairs and ladders, working in confined spaces and operating at heights of up to 70 metres.
Benefits:
- Opportunity to work on specialist marine and naval systems.
- International travel and exposure to a variety of vessels and technical environments.
- Ongoing technical training and professional development.
- Opportunity to transition from military technical service into a civilian engineering career.
- Expenses paid.
Why Apply?
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable individual looking for a varied, hands-on role with opportunities to travel internationally and work on specialist marine systems.
Our client is particularly keen to hear from former Royal Navy personnel whose military experience has given them the technical knowledge, discipline and problem-solving skills required to succeed in a field-based engineering environment.
Our client is particularly keen to hear from ex-military personnel – however, all suitably qualified candidates will be given due consideration.
