Our team is close-knit and handles a wide range of complex work for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. The team regularly handles international tax planning and estate administration cases. Each senior team member has their own specialism in addition to a varied general private client caseload, and the candidate would be encouraged to work with them. Claire Martin, Head of Department, has broad experience spanning complex international estate administration, trusts, and wills. She also undertakes contentious probate work. Samantha Fennah (Senior Associate) handles Court of Protection work and complex HNW estate administration. Emily Robertson (Senior Associate) undertakes HNW and UHNW tax planning and is building an LGBT* practice.

The role will be primarily based at our Battersea office. We will consider hybrid working after probation (min 3 days per week in the office).

We are in an exciting growth period with the team taking on a large number and variety of cases.

What are we looking for?

We have a full-time, permanent position for a highly motivated private client solicitor with at least 3+ PQE. They must have previous experience in handling Wills, estate administration and capacity work (LPAs and COP. Experience in tax planning work or a working knowledge of capital taxes is preferred but not essential. There is a pre-existing caseload, and the candidate will be expected to ‘hit the ground running’. They will be expected to work under pressure, build strong relationships with the team, and maintain attention to detail and consistent, high-level output.

The candidate must have experience handling their own caseload. The candidate’s work will be supervised, but they will be expected to see some clients independently, build their own client relationships, and nurture those relationships as they continue to build their following.

The candidate will undertake business development with support from the Senior Associates. We expect the candidate to have strong commercial awareness, and existing contacts would be preferred but not essential.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Draft simple and complex Wills and give the associated inheritance tax advice;
• Administer estates, including business, international and complex assets;
• Administer trusts and provide the associated tax advice;
• Assist the senior team with complex cases within their specialisms as mentioned above;
• Hit their billing target each month;
• Participate in business development activities and build their network;
• Assist in the supervision of trainee solicitors.

Skills, Knowledge And Experience

• 3 years PQE experience in private client practice in the UK with a breadth of experience in all areas of private client law;
• A 2:1 or higher from a reputable university
• Affiliate or Associate member of STEP is desirable but not essential
• Strong legal knowledge, which the candidate will be expected to demonstrate at interview; and
• Excellent billing performance.
