The Opportunity
Physics is a powerhouse subject at this school, with high uptake at A-Level and a consistent track record of students progressing to Russell Group and Oxbridge universities to study Engineering, Theoretical Physics, and Natural Sciences.
As the Head of Physics , you will be given the autonomy to drive the curriculum, mentor a team of specialist teachers, and ensure that the "Outstanding" standards of the school are reflected in every laboratory and lesson. You will lead on pedagogical innovation, ensuring that students are challenged by a curriculum that stretches far beyond the standard exam specifications.
Detailed Responsibilities
Departmental Leadership: Taking full responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning in Physics across KS3, KS4, and KS5. You will lead departmental meetings, conduct lesson observations, and foster a collaborative culture of professional growth.
Curriculum Design: Developing and refining a coherent, knowledge-rich curriculum that bridges the gap between GCSE Triple Science and the demands of A-Level Physics and beyond.
Results & Analysis: Monitoring student progress with precision. You will use data to implement highly effective interventions, ensuring that the department continues to achieve "Positive Progress" across all cohorts.
STEM Enrichment: Spearheading the school’s Physics enrichment programme, including the British Physics Olympiad , residential trips to CERN , and partnerships with leading London universities.
Mentorship: Providing expert guidance to Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and non-specialist staff, sharing your deep subject knowledge to elevate the entire faculty.
Candidate Profile
Academic Background: A strong Honours degree in Physics or an Engineering discipline, accompanied by Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) .
Track Record: Proven experience of delivering high-quality A-Level Physics results. Previous leadership experience (e.g., Lead Practitioner or Second in Department) is highly desirable.
Technical Mastery: A passion for practical Physics, with the ability to lead on the safe and effective delivery of complex experiments and demonstrations.
