About the Role

The Director, Global Field Engineering reports to the Vice‑President of Global Field Engineering and is accountable for the International Field Engineering team. You will ensure the efficient deployment of field‑engineering resources across our sports and news networks, deliver exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders, maintain compliance, and drive operational efficiencies and revenue growth.

This position is based in two city offices (Old Street and Chiswick) and includes frequent travel to major sports and news events to evaluate on‑site productions, consult with customers, and identify execution improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Lead, hire, train, and oversee a team of ~12 engineers and associates across EMEA.
  • Provide 24/7 broadcast and IT support for live sports and news productions at any location.
  • Develop team capabilities through recruitment, onboarding, delegation, and continuous learning.
  • Mentor staff, conduct performance reviews, and foster a collaborative, innovative environment.

Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Partner with sports and news technical operations leaders to plan and staff event requirements.
  • Assist the VP in shaping strategy and departmental goals aligned with broader business priorities.
  • Manage budget and staffing fluctuations, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
  • Work with planning and production peers to improve deployment processes and resource efficiency.
  • Maintain regular communication with regional business units and cross‑functional teams.
  • Explore and implement new field technologies and best practices to support global strategies.
  • Oversee adoption of remote production kits and workflow changes with minimal disruption.
  • Lead cross‑functional workstreams with production and engineering teams to align scheduling technology.

Remote Execution & Event Coordination

  • Travel regularly to live events to assess productions, consult on‑site customers, and drive efficiencies.
  • Ensure timely delivery of field production technology to meet broadcast deadlines.
  • Prepare field gear for upcoming high‑profile productions and align resource availability with commercial goals.
  • Oversee highly visible live broadcast productions in collaboration with programming teams.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven senior‑level experience managing events execution and field‑technology teams in a news or sports media environment.
  • Extensive background in live and sport field‑technology deployments.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of motivating, developing, and inspiring teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high‑quality results under demanding, fast‑paced conditions.
  • Excellent collaboration skills across internal service‑delivery departments.
  • Proactive problem‑solving and issue‑avoidance mindset.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and comfortable with rapid change.
  • Outstanding communication abilities and confidence representing the department globally.
  • Experience managing budgets and expenses.

Working Conditions

  • Location: Hybrid model split between two city offices with remote work options, in line with current company policy.
  • Travel: Frequent travel to international sports and news events is required.
  • Hybrid Working: Combination of remote and on‑site work; exact arrangement to be agreed with your line manager and may be adjusted for business needs.
