Bookkeeper – Established Accountancy Practice – Sutton

Your new roleYou’ll play a key role in delivering accurate bookkeeping, maintaining digital records, and ensuring clients remain fully compliant with HMRC’s Making Tax Digital requirements. This role suits someone who enjoys working closely with clients, thrives in a varied workload, and is comfortable taking ownership of their work from start to finish. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate digital bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients
- Process sales and purchase invoices, bank transactions, and reconciliations
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with MTD requirements
- Assist with the setup, migration, and ongoing support of clients on cloud accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- Monitor deadlines and ensure timely submission of all MTD‑related filings
- Communicate with clients to request information, resolve queries, and provide general bookkeeping support
- Support accountants with year‑end preparation, working papers, and ad‑hoc tasks
- Maintain organised digital files and ensure compliance with internal processes and HMRC standards
- Experience in bookkeeping within an accountancy practice or similar environment
- Strong understanding of Making Tax Digital requirements and VAT rules
- Confident using cloud accounting platforms and associated apps
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, professional manner
- Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines
