Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse

Job summary
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to research that has the potential to improve the care and long-term wellbeing of families affected by neonatal intensive care admission. The post holder will play a key role in the delivery and management of the study over 3 years, supporting participant recruitment and engagement, data collection, analysis of data to support intervention development.

Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, researchers and psychologists, you will help generate evidence that could influence neonatal care and family support services. This role offers the opportunity to combine clinical expertise with research delivery while making a meaningful difference to families during and after one of the most challenging periods of their lives.

We are looking for a compassionate, organised and proactive registered nurse with excellent communication skills and experience in neonatal care, family wellbeing and mental health.

Main duties of the job

• The focus of the role will be to provide a grounding in clinical practice and an academic framework conducting research particularly outcomes of neonatal intensive care. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of the neonatal research programme in partnership with relevant clinical, academic and charitable partners, including the charity Cosmic.
• Act as a recognised expert and professional role model within the clinical research environment, including direct and indirect clinical care, teaching, audit and research projects, which will involve managing a wide range of complex and sometime conflicting priorities.
• Provide safe, high quality, individualised, evidence based nursing care with the support and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; developing the specialist clinical skills and knowledge to achieve the competences required in order to carry out all relevant duties without direct supervision.
• Demonstrate a good understanding of the research environment to support the delivery and development of research portfolios in order to take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of clinical research projects.
• The post holder will ensure that any research undertaken safeguards the well-being of research participants and is conducted to ICH Good Clinical Practice

Person Specification
Education
Essential

• Registered nurse or health professional or first degree in life sciences
• Educated to degree level in relevant subject area or equivalent experience
• Educated to degree level in relevant subject area or equivalent experience

Desirable

• Non-medical prescribing
• Advanced practice qualification

Experience
Essential

• Minimum of 2 year at band 5 in a relevant clinical area
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• Knowledge of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), its values, aims and structure
• Experience in managing complex information

Desirable

• Clinical Research and audit experience
• Proven participation in the consent process for patients entering clinical trials
• Experience in Qualitative Research methods

Skills
Essential

• Be able to demonstrate knowledge of specialist patient group
• Able to prioritise and meet deadlines
• Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a small team, as well as part of the wider multidisciplinary team
• Ability to work across boundaries, integrating with multidisciplinary staff in relation to research trials
