Contract: Full-Time, Permanent or Fixed-Term
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP or January Start
An ambitious, fast-improving secondary school and Sixth Form in the East London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is seeking an entrepreneurial, commercially minded, and dynamic Teacher of Business Studies to join their thriving Business, Economics & Enterprise faculty. This is a compelling opportunity for a subject specialist, whether an experienced practitioner aiming to lead vocational pathways or a passionate Early Career Teacher (ECT), to decode enterprise, financial management, corporate strategy, and marketing for a high-aspiring student body.
About the Role
As a Teacher of Business Studies, you will bridge classroom theory with real-world corporate strategy, startup culture, and global commercial operations. Joining a vibrant department, you will deliver academically rich, case-study-driven lessons across Key Stage 4 (GCSE Business / Vocational Enterprise) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Business / BTEC National in Business), developing students' quantitative analysis, strategic decision-making, and professional presentation skills.
Environment: A supportive Outer London secondary school recognized for strong vocational achievement, modern ICT suites, and active connections to East London's burgeoning business and commercial hubs
Culture: A highly collaborative, well-resourced Social Sciences & Enterprise team featuring shared digital schemes of work, real-time market data tools, and supportive departmental leadership
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, high-rigor Business Studies lessons across Key Stages 4 and 5 that analyze business ownership, financial planning, marketing campaigns, human resources, and operational management.
Prepare GCSE, A-Level, and BTEC/Vocational candidates thoroughly for national examinations and portfolio coursework modules using data-driven progress tracking and diagnostic feedback routines.
Connect core theoretical frameworks to real-world corporate developments, economic trends, and local enterprise initiatives to build financial and commercial literacy.
Track, evaluate, and monitor individual student progress, implementing targeted interventions to stretch high-achieving young entrepreneurs while scaffolding concepts for developing learners.
Contribute positively to department enrichment, such as Young Enterprise competitions, student business incubators, guest corporate speaker sessions, and university business school application coaching.
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.
A strong academic degree in Business Studies, Business Management, Finance, Marketing, Economics, or a closely related discipline.
Demonstrated track record or capability of delivering outstanding Business teaching across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (familiarity with specifications such as Edexcel, AQA, or Pearson BTEC is highly desirable).
Solid understanding of both academic examination board standards and vocational coursework moderation procedures.
Superior classroom presence, strong commercial awareness, and an infectious enthusiasm for enterprise, innovation, and strategic problem-solving.
Salary & Benefits
Pay Scale: Outer London Main / Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS Outer London, commensurate with experience), with potential TLR opportunities available for Vocational Key Stage Coordination or Enterprise Leadership.
Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), comprehensive continuous professional development (CPD), structured onboarding, and access to staff health and wellbeing programs.
