The Opportunity

Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK's climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and driven Nuclear Safety Manager to join the Pre-Operations Function at Sizewell C (SZC). This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of nuclear safety at one of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects.

As part of theTechnical and Safety delivery programme, you will lead the development and implementation of a strategy to establish a world-class operational Nuclear Safety Group. This includes recruiting and developing the team, embedding a strong nuclear safety culture, and ensuring all operational safety requirements are in place for the start of plant operations.

You will also represent the future operator within the wider SZC project and collaborate closely with counterparts at Hinkley Point C (HPC) to ensure learning and best practices are shared and embedded.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the SZC Nuclear Safety Group.
  • Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing nuclear safety team.
  • Ensure readiness for operations, including people, training, documentation, governance, and equipment.
  • Promote and embed a strong nuclear safety culture across the organisation.
  • Represent the operator's interests within the SZC project and with external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with HPC and internal SZC teams to integrate learning and align approaches.
  • Support the development of safety cases and ensure alignment with the Nuclear Site Licence.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong role model and advocate for nuclear safety.
  • In-depth understanding of the role of a Nuclear Safety Group in operational nuclear power stations.
  • Solid technical foundation in nuclear engineering and science, ideally with PWR experience.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety cases and the operational role in their development and implementation.
  • Understanding of nuclear reactor physics and operational safety responsibilities.
  • Experience in strategy creation and implementation, ideally in a new or developing business area.
  • Strong influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficient in project management, including budgeting and planning.
  • Familiarity with the UK Nuclear Site Licence framework.
  • Ability to challenge constructively and work independently.
  • Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic project environment.
  • Collaborative and able to build effective working relationships.
  • Self-starter with initiative and accountability.
Why Join Us?

At SZC, you'll be part of a transformative project that will power millions of homes with low-carbon energy. You'll work in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment where safety, innovation, and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do.

If the above sounds like you, then we'd love to hear from you!

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a market-leading company pension scheme, paid holidays and a range of flexible benefits, such as: a company incentive bonus plan, health cover, cycle to work scheme, discounts and employee pricing.

Please let us know if you'd like to discuss flexible working arrangements by highlighting this on your application.

Sizewell C Limited (Sizewell C) is nuclear site licensed company whose business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Sizewell C was formerly under the majority ownership of the EDF Group but is currently majority owned by HM Government and operates as an independent company. EDF remains a key shareholder in Sizewell C and the business therefore maintains close links to EDF as a part of its 'nuclear family'.

As a Sizewell C employee, you may wonder why you are contacted by colleagues with an EDF email, or see the EDF logo on portals that you access and/or documentation you receive; this is because we have partnered with EDF for the provision of a number of support services whilst we complete a successful transition out of the EDF group.

Qualifications

Additional Information

Join the team at Sizewell C. The power of good for Britain.

It's not every day you get the opportunity to shape the working culture of what will be one of Europe's largest construction projects, while also helping Britain to reach its target of Net Zero emissions by 2050. That's one of the reasons Sizewell C will be unlike anything you've ever experienced before, and you'll need to be an exceptional professional to reach the high standards this critical infrastructure project demands.

The UK is experiencing a nuclear renaissance and Sizewell C - along with its sister project at Hinkley Point C in Somerset - is powering the change. We're ramping up at pace as we look ahead to the Financial Investment Decision in early 2025, and the start of construction soon after. With government fully on board and public opinion shifting significantly in favour of nuclear, there's never been a better time to join our project.

By submitting an application to this role, you acknowledge that you have read and understood Sizewell C's employee privacy policy and EDF's employee privacy policy. Just to let you know, EDF will be processing and sharing information about your application on behalf of Sizewell C.
