Locum Biomedical Scientist - North West England - Digital Pathology

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Digital Pathology Lead Biomedical Scientist to join a well-established laboratory in North West England. This is a key operational leadership role within a forward-thinking digital pathology service, offering the opportunity to oversee day-to-day digital workflows and ensure the delivery of a high-quality service during a period of transition and growth.
The successful candidate will provide operational leadership across the digital pathology function, supporting the team and maintaining service continuity within a fully digital environment. This position is focused entirely on slide scanning, digital image processing, and quality assurance activities, with no wet laboratory responsibilities.
What will your responsibilities be:
- Lead the day-to-day delivery of digital pathology services, ensuring an efficient and high-quality workflow.
• Oversee slide scanning, image processing, digital case preparation, and quality checking activities.
• Provide leadership and guidance to the digital pathology team, ensuring operational processes run smoothly.
• Act as a key point of contact for clients and reporting pathologists, delivering excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Maintain high quality standards across all digital pathology processes and support continuous service improvement.
• Identify and resolve workflow issues to ensure service delivery targets are met.
• Support the ongoing optimisation and development of digital pathology systems and procedures.
• Work closely with laboratory management to ensure operational objectives and client expectations are achieved.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential
• HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist.
• Significant Histology experience.
• Proven digital pathology experience, including slide scanning and digital workflow management.
• Previous team leadership, supervisory, or senior-level experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to independently manage day-to-day operational activities and support service delivery.
Desirable
• Experience supporting the implementation or development of digital pathology services.
• Experience within a high-throughput diagnostic or commercial laboratory environment.
• Experience driving quality improvement initiatives and service enhancements.
