Reserving Actuarial Analyst

Job Introduction

Are you looking to start your actuarial career in a place that values growth, teamwork, and purpose? We’re hiring a Reserving Actuarial Analyst to join our collaborative actuarial team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career or a new graduate who’s eager to learn, develop, and make a meaningful contribution.

You’ll support reserving analysis, learn to implement actuarial models, and communicate insights clearly – working closely with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

Role Responsibility

As our new Reserving Actuarial Analyst you will:

* Support the bi-annual valuation of reserving provisions and contribute to financial reporting.

* Assist in the quarterly booking of reserves and ad-hoc reserving analyses.

* Prepare and maintain actuarial models, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant policies and standards.

* Monitor actual versus expected experience and identify key areas for further investigation.

* Collaborate closely with internal teams and communicate actuarial insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

* Take ownership of your professional development and stay up to date with actuarial best practices and regulatory requirements.

* Ensure the quality and integrity of data used in reserving processes, reconciling data from multiple sources.

* Support actuarial governance activities, including preparation for the Reserving Committee and related meetings.

* Proactively identify opportunities to improve reserving methodologies and tools.

* Work effectively as part of a team, contributing positively to a supportive and engaging work environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for:

* Strong numerical ability with a logical and curious mindset; a passion for problem-solving and continuous learning.

* A 2:1 or above in a numerate degree.

* Experience or strong interest in working within an actuarial team environment.

* Genuine enthusiasm for becoming an actuary and developing a career in reserving.

* Proactive self-starter with excellent communication skills, able to explain ideas clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues.

* Team player who collaborates well and supports others; excellent Excel skills and eagerness to learn coding tools (e.g., VBA, SQL).

* Attention to detail with the ability to manage data effectively.

* Knowledge of medical insurance/indemnity and reserving experience or interest is a plus but not essential.

For further information, please look at the role profile from the MPS careers site.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, and we encourage you to apply even if you feel you do not match 100% of the technical requirements. We celebrate diversity, promote inclusivity and strive to create a work environment which ensures everyone can be heard.

In return, we can offer you:

* Discretionary on-target bonus of 5% up to a max 10% based on performance

* 11% pension contribution (3% from you, 8% from us – optional additional matched 3% contributions, e.g. 6% from you, 11% from us)

* 25 days annual leave. Flexible public holidays and option to buy/sell additional leave

* Private Medical Cover

* Car Salary Sacrifice scheme

* 6x salary death in service

* Holistic health and wellbeing support package

* A truly flexible hybrid-working arrangement

* A culture that promotes inclusivity, wellbeing and rewards hard work

About the Company

Medical Protection Society (MPS) is the world’s leading protection organisation for Doctors, Dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of almost 300,000 Members around the world.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, meaning our Members’ premiums are kept safe should our Members require support for complaints or claims arising from professional practice, or invested into bettering the organisation, our colleagues and our products.

Our philosophy is to support safe practice in medicine and dentistry by helping to avert problems in the first place. We also actively campaign for regulatory and legal reforms that benefit Members and the wider healthcare professions.

To do this, we need colleagues who are trusted and supported to deliver their best work, whether that be through leadership development, fully-funded training courses or peer-to-peer support. We want our colleagues to feel empowered enough to deliver positive change, display ambition to push themselves and are determined when faced with a challenge, whilst ensuring our Member’s best interests are at the core.
