Context
The Corporate Affairs team ensures that Anglo American stands out as a trusted leader in responsible mining that unlocks long-term value for society by: engaging proactively and meaningfully with relevant stakeholders to support strategic opportunities and shape public policy outcomes; effectively mitigating political risk; rallying employees around the company’s ambitions to help build a high performance culture; and protecting and strengthening our global reputation and brand.



Purpose

The purpose of the Brand & Reputation Specialist is to work alongside the Marketing Communications Manager and the broader communication team to protect and enhance Anglo American’s reputation by promoting a positive brand perception of Anglo American – through effective management of our global brand, strategic marketing communication activity and reputation measurement.

Key responsibilities include:

Support the Marketing Communication Manager in executing a world-class brand strategy for Anglo American to best showcase the company to its full array of stakeholders,

  • Support the ongoing development, refinement and implementation of Anglo American’s brand strategy, visual identity and brand guidelines, aligned to our Purpose, business strategy and culture
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the global brand DAM (Digital Asset Management system) keeping the toolkit up to date with regularly refreshed content and corporate templates
  • Work with external agencies to produce brand and marketing communication materials that effectively communicate Anglo American’s key strategic themes and campaigns
  • Champion the brand internally, managing a brand network, training programme and ensuring brand integrity is upheld and maintained
  • Provide practical brand advice, direction, sign-off of materials and tactical support across the business as required - as the main point of contact for the ‘brand support’ helpdesk
  • Maintain and evolve brand related policies and standards – Groupwide for all relevant communication channels
  • Ensure Group Marketing Communication collateral is kept up to date
  • Provide analysis of marketing communication channels with regards to their impact on brand awareness, reputation and relevance, in support of determining how best to strategically position Anglo American against its competitors
  • Manage the reputation measurement system, including reputation surveys and sentiment monitoring

  • Demonstrate behaviour in line with the Group’s values, standards and a professional workplace
  • Participate as an effective team member in working collaboratively with your leader, peers and relevant others (including from other teams) to achieve business goals

Compliance

  • Contribute to the development of the budget
  • Monitor your costs against budget and either address, or advise your manager of, any variances of note
  • Identify any opportunities for improved cost management and either address these, or raise them with your manager, as appropriate
  • Fully understand the policies, processes and systems which apply to you and your team’s work and contribute to these so that your team works effectively within them
  • Identify any issues around these that interfere with the ability of you or your team to complete work or meet the plan / strategy. For processes within your authority, make the required changes. For others, escalate these issues to seek action and / or look for alternative solutions

Qualifications
-Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of the importance of brand and managing reputation in a corporate environment
  • Communications and its impact on reputation, perception and strategic positioning
  • Driving consistent communication messages ensuring alignment and approvals are in place
  • Corporate communication channels and how they work
  • An awareness of the factors that need to be taken into account when communicating across cultures and geographies

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrate strong technical ability as a Communications professional
  • Ability to navigate internal stakeholder networks
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to develop and implement standards and frameworks
  • Strong Organisation and Communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong verbal reasoning and numeracy skills
  • How to implement integrated communication across multiple external and internal channels
  • Ensure consistency and alignment in visual presentation of communication and marketing materials
  • Manage and monitor budgets and financial reporting
  • Brief and manage third party agencies, contractors and suppliers
  • Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator knowledge advantageous
