Carbon Removal Scientist
We are seeking a Carbon Removal Scientist to join our team. This role is critical to our mission of scaling our science led data products and service. You will be a core contributor to the development and evolution of our quality & risk models for carbon removal. Models that underpin CUR8’s offering today and in the future. This role sits at the intersection of science, engineering, and product to deliver world-class insights to our clients.
What the job involves
- Conduct rigorous, science-based evaluations of new and existing carbon removal projects.
- Collaborate with our supply and commercial colleagues to understand and communicate our supply needs.
- Collaborate closely with our engineering team to continuously refine and scale the data that serves our suite of products, integrating the latest scientific and policy understanding.
- Partner with our product teams to translate complex scientific and market data into world-class insights, tools, and features that support our clients in navigating the carbon removal market.
- Be ready and willing to pivot to support the needs of the business as they arise - Science is core to everything we do at CUR8, and our scientists proactively lean in to add value wherever they see the opportunity!
Requirements
Essential
Practical working experience of Nature-based solutions (NbS). For example: ARR, IFM, Soil Organic Carbon) or possess equivalent deep technical experience in the sector.
Ability to bring market Insights beyond science e.g policy developments, buyer trends, investor insights
Some experience of day to day commercial tasks such as taking client calls, long term planning etc
While you may have deep expertise in a specific removal pathway, you are a natural systems-thinker, capable of becoming a broad expert across the full spectrum of carbon removal solutions, policy landscapes, and market dynamics.
You possess a keen eye for detail and excel at bringing analytical rigour and structure to complex, multifaceted problems.
You are an excellent communicator, able to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, actionable insights for the wider teams.
You will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment and are excited by the challenge of bringing systems and processes to scale.
You have a programmer’s mindset and can see your way around difficult and ambiguous problems.
Desirable
- You hold a PhD in a carbon removal-related field - prefarably nature based
- Engineering / programming experience including machine learning and model development
- Experience collaborating with product and engineering teams in bringing products to scale.
- A strong understanding of the CDR market, including relevant policy, methodologies, and regulatory trends.

Our process:
Our process aims to give all of us the chance to get to know each other, our aspirations, and whether this is an good fit. We begin with an initial screening conversation where we'll share more about CUR8 and the role, while learning about your career goals. This is followed by a take-home case-study assignment. The next stage consists of two in-person interviews (when possible): focused on technical capabilities and on cultural alignment. We wrap up with a final one-on-one conversation with our founder.
