Commercial Director

Robert Half has partnered with a leading UK engineering and infrastructure business to recruit for a Commercial Director .

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced commercial professional to take ownership of a broad commercial function and play a key role in the continued growth and development of the business.

The Role

You will provide strategic and hands-on commercial leadership across a complex, project-led environment, working closely with Operations, Finance, Procurement and senior leadership.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead and develop the Commercial, Procurement and Document Control functions.
• Act as a trusted commercial adviser to Operations and senior stakeholders.
• Take ownership of commercial, contractual, project and supply-chain risk.
• Strengthen commercial governance, processes and accountability.
• Improve commercial reporting, forecasting and financial performance.
• Lead negotiations across major client and supplier contracts.
• Develop procurement and supplier strategies to improve value and resilience.
• Drive greater consistency and commercial maturity across the organisation.
• Support business transformation and the development of improved systems and processes.
• Provide commercial input into wider business strategy and growth.
• Build, develop and retain a high-performing commercial team.

About You

We're looking for someone with:

• Significant senior commercial experience within construction, engineering, infrastructure or building services .
• Experience working within a principal contractor environment.
• Strong knowledge of NEC4 and JCT contracts .
• A strong understanding of commercial, contractual and supply-chain risk.
• Experience improving commercial processes, governance and performance.
• Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• The confidence to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.

The client is also open to a Senior Commercial Manager or Head of Commercial who is ready to take the next step into a Commercial Director position.

The successful candidate will need to be commercially sharp, operationally credible and comfortable working in a changing environment without relying on a large support structure.

The Opportunity
