Estates Operative (Weekend Shift)
The role
Are you a proactive, hands-on worker with strong general maintenance skills who is eager to develop your estates management experience in a practical, part-time role? Emanuel School is looking for an Estates Operative to join us on weekends, helping to ensure the smooth running of our extensive estate.
In this varied and engaging role, you will support the smooth running of the school by assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Estates Department, from setting up for school events and assisting with porterage duties to carrying out minor maintenance and repairs.
You will also help ensure statutory compliance, including legionella monitoring, emergency lighting tests and fire alarm checks, and act as a key holder, taking responsibility for the security of the school and responding to alarm activations when required.
This is a weekend role, working Saturdays from 7am to 8pm and Sundays from 8am to 8pm. You will be expected to be flexible in working additional hours for school events, for which overtime will be paid.
About you
We are looking for someone with a full, clean UK driving licence who is willing to drive the school minibus. You should be physically capable, have practical knowledge of estates and maintenance work, and possess strong communication skills with good written and spoken English. Previous experience in a fast-paced environment and a solid understanding of Health & Safety is essential. Candidates should also live within a commutable distance of the school.
Working at Emanuel
There is always a buzz at Emanuel. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school. With a weekly staff briefing, half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, all of us are engaged in a lively ongoing dialogue about the school’s aims and aspirations.
Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining us should expect to do the same and share our commitment to the highest standards. At the same time our ethos remains unpretentious, kindly and practical, and there’s a strong sense of community and friendship at the school.
We aim to look after our staff well: we have an appraisal scheme with a focus on employees’ professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer salary sacrifice childcare vouchers through TEDS Premier, we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we’re committed to supporting staff wellbeing. Financially, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.

Please note that this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and is subject to a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. Emanuel School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
