The Opportunity:
As Stream grows, so does operational complexity. This First Line Risk Manager role is crucial to strengthening our day-to-day risk management, ensuring we effectively identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor risks embedded within operational teams. You will champion a strong risk-aware culture, provide practical guidance, and directly influence frontline team efficiency and compliance. This high-impact position ensures continued compliance with Financial Conduct Authority regulations and enables safe, scalable growth.
The Team:
Reporting to the VP Operations, you'll be an integral part of our Operations function. In this embedded first-line role, you'll be the go-to person for regulatory advice, guidance, and oversight for frontline teams and across Stream products. You'll collaborate closely with our second line Risk and Compliance teams for advice and oversight, ensuring robust risk management practices across operations.
What will you be doing?
You will ensure effective day-to-day risk management within Stream's operational teams, working within the established risk framework. Key responsibilities include:
Risk Management & Guidance: Manage and maintain risk registers (product, function). Ensure effective remediation/controls are in place.
Risk Owner Support: Act as a central expert for senior risk owners, guiding them to effectively assess principal risks, define/review business risk appetite, and guide on business decisions.
Risk Reporting: Prepare timely risk reports for operational leadership and contribute to second-line reporting.
Risk Acceptance: Facilitate first-line risk acceptance, ensuring alignment with second-line risk appetite and policies.
Risk Event Management: Oversee end-to-end risk event management within operational teams, including identification, reporting, root cause analysis, action tracking, and integrating lessons learned into daily operations.
Control Assurance: Act as a check / control function for certain processes. Perform / oversee periodic control reviews and E2E customer journey maps within operational teams to assess design/effectiveness, recommending enhancements.
Risk Programme Support: Contribute to initiatives enhancing first-line risk management practices.
Third-Party Risk Management: Provide direct support for third-party risk management activities for suppliers/partners within first-line operational teams.
Risk Culture & Policy: Champion a proactive, risk-aware culture within operations, contributing to local risk policies/procedures.
What experience might you have? (But if you're close... we'd still love to talk to you!)
3+ years' progressive experience in a dedicated first-line risk or controls management role.
Experience in an Authorised Payments Institution, Electronic Money Institution, Scaling Fintech or Fintech Consumer credit firm.
Proven experience managing risk in a fast-growth, dynamic, or scaling business.
Strong understanding of UK financial services regulations with specific knowledge of Conduct of Business Sourcebook, Consumer Credit Act, and Dispute Resolution: Complaints sourcebook.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to translate data into actionable insights and clear recommendations.
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, challenging and guiding senior staff.
Within 1 month you'll have:
Reviewed existing operational risk practices/documentation within assigned teams.
Established key relationships with first-line stakeholders (Operations, Product, Legal, and the Chief Information Security Officer) and second-line (Risk/Compliance).
Begun identifying priority areas for enhancing operational risk management.
Within 3 months you'll have:
Ownership of risk registers for assigned operational teams, ensuring accuracy/utility.
Taken over collation and presentation of risk MI to the appropriate committee meetings.
Guided a first-line team in refining risk assessments/control effectiveness, including risk appetite discussions.
Within 6 months you'll have:
Led/delivered a significant enhancement project within the operational risk framework (e.g., new process, control improvement, or operational resilience embedding).
Prepared/presented comprehensive risk reports for operational leadership.
Become a trusted advisor to business units on risk matters, embedding a stronger risk-aware culture.
Working Policy: Hybrid policy: 3 days a week in the office.
Salary: From £70,000 to £110,000 (dependent on experience) + Benefits
