Deputy Superintendent CT and General X-ray Radiographer

Welbeck Health Partners
London

About the department

Our Imaging & Diagnostics service sits at the heart of the patient journey and plays a vital role in delivering timely, accurate and compassionate care. As one of the first clinical touchpoints for many pathways, the department supports consultants and multidisciplinary teams by providing high‑quality diagnostic imaging in a calm, reassuring environment.

Working collaboratively with radiologists, clinicians, Medical Physics Experts (MPEs), Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs), and patient administration teams, the service ensures that all imaging is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with the highest clinical, regulatory and governance standards. Precision, professionalism and patient comfort underpin everything we do.

About the role

As the CT/General X‑ray Deputy Superintendent Radiographer, you will play an integral role in the safe and effective delivery of our imaging services across CT, General X‑ray, DEXA and Theatre. Working closely with the Centre Director and CT & General X‑ray Superintendent, you will contribute to the leadership, coordination and ongoing development of a high‑performing imaging team.

You will perform and supervise a wide range of imaging examinations—including cardiac CT, virtual colonoscopy, TAVI, DEXA and theatre work—ensuring the highest technical and diagnostic standards. Acting as an IR(ME)R Practitioner, you will justify imaging requests, ensure compliance with IRMER 2017 and IRR17, and maintain meticulous attention to radiation safety and local rules.

Alongside your clinical duties, you will support day‑to‑day operational leadership including rota planning, training and competency development, equipment quality assurance, incident reporting and stock management. You will work closely with Consultant Radiologists and multidisciplinary colleagues to optimise pathways, enhance patient experience and drive continuous quality improvement across the service.

This role is ideal for a radiographer with strong CT expertise, excellent clinical judgement, and a passion for leading by example within a modern, patient‑centred diagnostic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and supervise a full range of CT, General X‑ray, DEXA and Theatre imaging procedures, including cardiac and specialist CT examinations

  • Act as an IR(ME)R Practitioner, independently assessing and justifying imaging requests in accordance with IRMER 2017 and local protocols

  • Ensure the safe administration of IV contrast and medications under Patient Group Directions (PGDs)

  • Oversee daily workflow, allocating appropriate staff skill‑mix to ensure safe and efficient list delivery

  • Lead and undertake equipment QA testing, proactively reporting faults and coordinating maintenance

  • Work closely with radiologists and clinicians to clarify complex requests and support optimal patient care

  • Communicate critical or unexpected findings in accordance with local SOPs

  • Assist the Superintendent with rota planning, reconciliation of hours, and management of annual leave

  • Support the training, supervision and competency development of junior radiographers

  • Participate in service expansion, including protocol optimisation in collaboration with equipment manufacturers

  • Contribute to governance, audit, incident reporting and Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs)

  • Maintain accurate RIS and PACS records and ensure compliance with GDPR and data security requirements

  • Promote an inclusive, professional and compassionate working environment
