An exciting opportunity is now available for a permanent Band 6 post at King's College Hospital (KCH) in the Stem Cell Laboratory, Department of Haematological Medicine. The Stem Cell Laboratory provides a dynamic and exciting working environment, and supports the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at KCH by processing more than 200 transplants per year for the patients in the London South East area.
Main duties of the job
The Stem Cell Laboratory is a highly regulated working environment with an emphasis on product quality. We are seeking applications from experienced an enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists looking for career development. They will take part in the day-to-day running of the Stem Cell Laboratory, which is motivated by a drive for clinical excellence and scientific progress. The successful candidate will have to work closely with clinical colleagues and possess an understanding of the requirements of JACIE, the Human Tissue Act and MHRA requirements relevant to stem cell transplantation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will hold an appropriate IBMS recognised degree and preferably a specialist portfolio in the Stem Cell Transplantation discipline. Experience in GMP, sterile working, cleanroom procedures, cryopreservation, flow cytometry and cell culture would be viewed favourably.
Please note that the department is moving to 7 day extended working hours and the post holder will be expected to participate in this.

Essential criteria
- BSc Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
- State Registration (Health & Care Professions Council)
Desirable criteria
- MSc Biomedical Science (or equivalent)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and appreciation of wider aspects of cellular therapy and their role in range of human disorders
- Knowledge of Immunology, Stem Cell Biology and Bone Marrow/Stem cell Transplantation for haematological malignancies/disorders
- Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Use of Haematology analysers
- Risk management theory and practice
- Technical Problem solving e.g. equipment failure, quality control failure
- Highly effective communication and motivational skills
- Quality Control and Assurance management
- Numerate – statistical and mathematical and able to undertake scientific calculations
Desirable criteria
- Clean room working and maintenance experience
- Cryopreservation experience
- Knowledge of flow cytometry
- Knowledge of cell culture
Communication

- Ability to communicate complex information effectively both written and oral at all levels both within and outside the Trust

Essential criteria
- Ability to plan, organise and manage own work and time
- Ability to adapt and organise and prioritise the unpredictable nature of workload efficiently
