Role: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: London Borough of Hounslow, West London
Pay: £90–£120 per day, dependent on experience
Contract Type: Full-time, long-term with potential for permanent employment
Hours: Monday to Friday, term time only
Start Date: Immediate or next academic term

Role Overview

A large, inclusive primary school within the London Borough of Hounslow is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to support pupils with a wide range of additional needs. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference in children’s lives and understands the importance of patience, consistency, and empathy when working with pupils who face challenges in accessing education.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional academic, emotional, or behavioural support. You will play a vital role in helping them feel safe, understood, and capable within the school environment.

  • Speech, language, and communication difficulties

  • Sensory processing challenges

  • Learning delays and developmental differences

Support may be provided on a one-to-one basis or in small group settings , depending on the pupil’s needs and the school’s SEN structure.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant will include:

  • Providing tailored support to pupils with SEN throughout the school day

  • Supporting pupils to access lessons and learning activities

  • Working alongside the class teacher to adapt resources

  • Implementing strategies from EHCPs and support plans

  • Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour management

  • Encouraging positive social interactions

  • Supporting transitions between lessons and activities

  • Supervising pupils during break times and lunchtimes

  • Monitoring progress and recording observations

  • Supporting personal care needs where required

  • Promoting independence while maintaining appropriate support

  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant who is:

  • Patient, compassionate, and empathetic

  • Emotionally resilient and able to manage challenging behaviour

  • Passionate about SEN and inclusive education

  • Confident working as part of a team

  • Flexible and adaptable to pupils’ changing needs

Experience in an SEN or educational setting is desirable, but not essential. Candidates with backgrounds in care work, youth work, mental health support, or behaviour support are also encouraged to apply.
