About the School

A busy and inclusive secondary school in Croydon is looking for an experienced Attendance Officer to join its pastoral and administration team.

The school is committed to improving attendance and ensuring pupils receive the support they need to engage fully with education. The successful candidate will work closely with the school's pastoral staff, families and senior leaders to monitor attendance, identify concerns and support appropriate interventions.

This role would suit someone who already understands school attendance systems and procedures and is confident communicating with parents and pupils.

About the Role

You will be responsible for monitoring attendance across the school and supporting the pastoral team with attendance-related concerns.

Responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring daily attendance and identifying unexplained absences.

• Contacting parents and carers regarding absence.

• Maintaining accurate attendance records.

• Identifying patterns of persistent or repeated absence.

• Working closely with Heads of Year and pastoral staff.

• Supporting attendance improvement plans.

• Preparing attendance information and reports for senior leaders.

• Recording interventions and communication with families.

• Arranging and supporting attendance meetings.

• Liaising with external professionals where appropriate.

• Following school attendance and safeguarding procedures.

• Ensuring information is accurately recorded on the school's MIS.

• Maintaining confidentiality when dealing with sensitive family information.

The Ideal Candidate

Previous experience working within a school attendance or pastoral team is essential.

Experience using SIMS, Arbor or another school management information system is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will need excellent communication skills, confidence dealing with parents and a good understanding of safeguarding and school attendance expectations.

An enhanced DBS will be required.
