Mobile Automotive Technician
Join Our Team as a Mobile Vehicle Technician
Step into a new era of mobile repair with our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division. We are looking for a dedicated Mobile Vehicle Technician to join our dynamic team.
About the Role
As a Mobile Vehicle Technician, you will provide planned, structured repair and servicing directly to our members, whether at their driveway or workplace car park. This role is distinct from traditional roadside rescue, focusing on scheduled jobs without emergency callouts or unpredictable shifts.
What to Expect
Your day will start with a clear digital schedule, allowing you to:
- Perform routine servicing
- Conduct diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
- Carry out in-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
- Provide member advice and recommendations based on inspections
- Conduct vehicle safety checks aligned with our standards
With a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, and tools at your disposal, you’ll have everything you need to deliver quality work efficiently.
Why Choose SMR?
- Enjoy planned appointments instead of emergency responses
- Experience consistent workflow without unpredictable demands
- Focus on in-depth repairs rather than temporary fixes
- Have the time to do the job properly, with built-in support and parts ordering
- Utilize clear schedules through our mobile service platform
What You’ll Need
- Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
- A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
Working Conditions
This role offers a competitive base salary of £45,378 (inclusive of London Weighting Allowance, if applicable), with on-target earnings of up to £57,000 . You will work a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week, with core hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4 Saturdays.
Benefits
- Earnings That Motivate: Market-competitive salary with opportunities for bonuses and premium-rate overtime.
- Opt-in Guaranteed Overtime: Choose to work extra days at £30 per hour, potentially increasing your earnings significantly.
- Tools to Drive Your Future: Free RAC Ultimate Complete Breakdown Service and access to a car salary sacrifice scheme after 12 months.
- Time Off That Matters: 23 days of holiday (rising to 25 with service) plus bank holidays.
- Financial Security & Perks: Pension scheme with up to 6.5% matched contributions and life assurance cover.
- Wellbeing That Works for You: 24/7 confidential support service available for you and your household.
- Extras That Make a Difference: Access to exclusive discounts and a stake in our collective success through our Colleague Share Scheme.
Opportunities for Growth
We value ongoing development, including future EV and diagnostic skills, ensuring you stay at the forefront of the industry.
Who Thrives Here?
If you are not only skilled with tools but also excel in communication, this role is for you. Our Mobile Mechanics are the face of our organization, providing reassurance and high-quality service directly to our members. You will enjoy independence, problem-solving, and the satisfaction of genuinely helping people.
Join us at the RAC, where we are committed to career growth, recognition, and support. We celebrate individuality and welcome people from all backgrounds. Together, we aim to become the UK’s number one motoring services provider.
