An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH), part of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, for a Band 5 Staff Nurse within the Endoscopy Unit.
The PRUH has an established Endoscopy unit with two procedure rooms and a third within radiology for all endoscopy procedures under fluoroscopy. We perform all endoscopic procedures including Enteroscopy, Video Capsule Endoscopy, Endoscopy Ultrasound Service (EUS), Trans Nasal Endoscopy (TNE) and Bronchoscopy and Endo Bronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) and pre assessment.
The current unit is extremely efficient with an excellent productivity record. In order to facilitate the further development of the service, a business case has been approved to expand the endoscopy facilities at the PRUH to a six roomed standalone elective unit whilst retaining the main hospital rooms for inpatient and therapeutic procedures. This incredibly exciting project is set to be completed this year.
We are looking for someone who has the motivation, drive and commitment to help deliver an outstanding endoscopy service to the people of Bromley. You will work as a professional role model, demonstrating flexibility, excellent communication skills and an ability to work as part of team.
Main duties of the job
The Endoscopy staff nurse will be expected to exhibit specific skills in the
management of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. This will include
undertaking assessment, education and counselling wherever appropriate.
The post holder will work closely with the nursing team, health care assistants, wider endoscopy team including the pre assessment team, colorectal team, pathology, radiology and cancer services in the trust and have a strong clinical commitment to the Endoscopy service.
The role will involve collaborative working with a large multi-disciplinary team nursing team. It will also extend to ensure full service provision which includes rotation to the on call emergency GI Bleed Nursing rota. The Endoscopy staff nurse will be supported by the sisters, clinical manager, service manager and clinical leads.
The Band 5 Endoscopy Staff Nurse is expected to support the senior staff in development of the service, showing professional & personal development. It is essential that the post holder can work within a diverse team, provide autonomous decision making and be aware of their limitations in accordance with NMC. The role involves the ability to integrate, communicate, support and be a role model to a wide multi-disciplinary group in a centre of excellence.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Delivering high quality, evidence-based and patient focused clinical care through:
- Delivering a high standard of evidence-based care to patients.

- Involving and supporting patients, relatives, carers and friends in the care process.

Working effectively as part of the immediate team and wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) through:
- Liaising effectively with all members of the MDT to ensure patients’ needs are met.
- Exercising leadership and taking the initiative where appropriate.
- Providing support and advice to ward/unit staff (especially junior staff) on clinical and administrative issues.
- Liaising with discharge coordinator / bed manager to ensure effective admission/discharge of patients.
- Keeping the ward/unit sister / charge nurse informed of significant changes and/or anticipated problems.
Upholding a duty of care and clinical governance through:
- Observing a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being of yourself, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital.
- Ensuring the rules, policies, procedures and standards of Kings College Hospital NHS Trust Foundation together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations are adhered to at all times.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality, dignity and privacy at all times.
- Adhering to the Trust’s policy on valuing equality and diversity and showing due regard for each patient’s cultural and religious beliefs, gender, ethnicity, age and sexuality.
