Assistant Yard Manager Opportunity – Camden Branch
We are looking for a proactive and organised individual to join Lawsons as an Assistant Yard Manager at our thriving Camden branch. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills while supporting the Yard Manager in driving operational excellence, health and safety compliance, and exceptional service standards in a busy builder’s merchant environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities – Yard Operations & People Management
- Support the Yard Manager with the day-to-day running of the Camden yard, ensuring effective and safe movement of goods at all times.
- Supervise yard colleagues, promoting a positive, inclusive, and high-performing working culture.
- Oversee goods-in and goods-out processes, ensuring accuracy, stock rotation, and minimal losses.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and compliant yard environment, championing all aspects of health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Assist with planning rotas and coordinating workloads to ensure efficient operation and outstanding customer service.
- Collaborate with drivers and warehouse teams to guarantee timely deliveries and collections.
- Support customers with product enquiries and load vehicles safely, upholding Lawsons’ reputation for friendly and knowledgeable service.
- Contribute to branch stock control, working closely with the branch management team to monitor levels and minimise discrepancies.
- Step up to lead the yard in the Yard Manager’s absence, ensuring continuity of standards and service.
Skills & Experience – What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in a yard, warehouse or builders’ merchant environment (essential).
- Demonstrable leadership qualities with a positive approach to motivating teams.
- Excellent communication skills, able to engage confidently with colleagues and customers from all backgrounds.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to yard operations.
- Ability to use initiative, solve problems, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail, especially in stock handling and record keeping.
- Valid forklift or other relevant materials handling licence preferred. Training can be provided for the right candidate.
- Flexible, solutions-focused, and willing to support wider branch operations as required. #HP
Working Hours – Assistant Yard Manager
- 44.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with 1 in 2 Saturday mornings (08:00 – 12:00).
