Consultant Endocrinologist

Second Nature
London

The Company

The Challenge

Obesity has become a global epidemic; in the UK, we spend £9 billion a year alone on diseases like type 2 diabetes (that’s 10% of the NHS budget). What’s shocking is most of this is preventable – through sustained lifestyle and habit change.

Enter Second Nature.

We’re here to help people take control of their health. By bringing together behavioural science, technology, and incredible people, our grand mission is to eradicate the global epidemic of chronic lifestyle diseases once and for all.

Our digital habit change programme – delivered digitally through mobile and web apps – helps people to improve their lifestyle, lose weight, and ultimately reduce their risk for conditions such as type 2 diabetes.

  • We've positively changed the lives of over 250,000 people
  • We're rated 'Excellent' by over 7k of our members on Trustpilot
  • We're one of the few consumer health brands that are commissioned by the NHS and leading health insurer, Vitality Health
  • We're a leading B2C provider of GLP-1 medication-assisted weight loss programmes, and 1 of 5 NICE-approved providers to deliver these services within the NHS in the future

The role

We are looking for a Consultant Endocrinologist to support our Specialist Weight Management Service by providing expert clinical guidance to the multidisciplinary team (MDT) on complex cases, as defined by the clinical leads of the service.

You will play a key role in guiding the MDT with clinical decision-making for patients with complex needs , particularly those on GLP-1 RA medication . Your expertise will help ensure that patients receive safe, evidence-based, and effective care .

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an innovative specialist weight management service alongside an existing NHS or private sector role.

About the Service

This is a Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management Service. The MDT includes dietitians, psychologists, doctors, nurses, and independent prescribers , working together to provide holistic, evidence-based care . The majority of patients will engage with digital interventions , with approximately 80% expected to be prescribed GLP-1 RA medication.

Requirements

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate the remote MDT on a weekly basis to provide expert clinical input on complex cases.
  • Offer guidance on best practices for managing obesity and associated metabolic conditions.
  • Provide asynchronous support when needed, reviewing cases and advising the MDT outside of scheduled meetings.
  • Ensure that clinical decisions are aligned with current best practice and regulatory guidelines .

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for an experienced and collaborative consultant endocrinologist who is confident in coordinating a remote MDT. You will be someone who:

Has strong clinical judgement – able to assess complex cases and provide clear guidance to the MDT.
Communicates effectively – explaining clinical reasoning concisely and clearly.
Is proactive and engaged – offering advice both in MDT meetings and asynchronously when required.
Thrives in a multidisciplinary setting – comfortable collaborating with a diverse team of healthcare professionals.
Is passionate about obesity care – committed to evidence-based treatment and improving patient outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • On the General Medical Council's Specialist Register as a Consultant Endocrinologist

Desirable:

  • Additional qualifications in obesity or metabolic medicine

Experience

Essential:

  • Significant experience managing obesity and/or diabetes in a Tier 3 or 4 specialist weight management service

Desirable:

  • Experience coordinating a remote MDT

Time Commitment

Candidates must be available to start as soon as possible .

  • The role requires approximately 4-8 hours per month , depending on case complexity.
  • As the service scales, the time commitment may increase depending on patient demand. Any changes will be discussed and agreed upon in advance .

Benefits

This is a great opportunity to work in an innovative specialist weight management service and help shape the future of obesity treatment.

Please Note: This is a self-employed/contractor position and does not constitute employment. The initial contract term is for a minimum of 6 months , with the potential for extension based on mutual agreement.
