Your New Role

As an MCR Supervisor , you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Master Control Room (MCR) in a dynamic 24/7 broadcast environment. This role is crucial in supporting high-profile live outputs by coordinating people, processes, and technology. If you enjoy guiding teams in live broadcast operations and enhancing service delivery, this position offers a varied and impactful opportunity.

Your Role Accountabilities

• Supervise MCR shift operations in a 24/7 environment.
• Manage the MCR team, focusing on wellbeing, development, culture, and performance.
• Maintain an effective MCR environment, fostering engagement and collaboration during high-profile events.
• Coordinate staff rosters, including overtime and freelance cover, ensuring the right skills are available for each event.
• Provide proactive oversight of daily MCR activities, including fault investigation and resolution.
• Ensure the team is fully trained and prepared for all scheduled events.
• Support effective delegation and knowledge sharing within the MCR team.
• Represent the MCR in internal and external meetings.
• Contribute to planning future operational requirements and events.
• Coordinate with Production, T&O departments, and third-party providers for successful live content delivery.
• Attend operational, planning, and project meetings, advising on decision-making.
• Help define and maintain MCR technical workflows and systems.
• Troubleshoot technical issues, escalating faults as necessary.
• Write and compile detailed reports on MCR issues or outages.
• Provide day-to-day responsibility for all staff on shift, managing 10+ direct reports.

Qualifications & Experience

• Previous supervisory or managerial experience with direct line management.
• Experience in staff training and maintaining/updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Thorough understanding of MCR systems, equipment, and broadcast delivery models.
• Expertise in troubleshooting technical issues and developing effective workarounds.
• Operational knowledge of MCR technology and workflows, including SDI and IP video/audio routing.
• Understanding of IT networking infrastructure.
• Experience with broadcast control systems, ideally BNCS and Nevion Video IPath.
• Familiarity with various video standards, including UHD.
• Understanding of video and audio timing principles.
• Operational knowledge of tools for diagnosing video/audio issues.
• Familiarity with satellite contribution equipment and contribution standards.
• Experience in maintaining and creating operational processes in collaboration with other teams.

Working Conditions

This role operates in a shift-based environment, working a 40-hour week that includes weekends and public holidays. The MCR operates 24/7/365, and all working hours will be carried out onsite.
