TCG (Pokemon/One Piece) Retail Associate

KABOOMKaboom is a specialty trading-card and collectible store — offering sports cards, TCG products (such as Pokémon, One Piece Card Game, and more), sealed products, singles, accessories, and hobby-community support through events, grading, and live product “breaks.”
ROLE SUMMARY
As a Retail Associate at Kaboom, you will be the frontline representative of the store: guiding customers, managing inventory, supporting community events, and ensuring a smooth, professional, and fun shopping experience for collectors, players, and hobby-enthusiasts alike.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
CUSTOMER SERVICE & SALES
- Greet and assist customers as they enter the store; foster a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
- Provide knowledgeable advice about trading cards and collectibles — including new releases, rarity, card condition, set releases, and game mechanics when relevant (e.g. For Pokémon, One Piece TCG, etc.).
- Help customers choose between sealed products (boosters, boxes) and singles, accessories (binders, sleeves, top loaders), and recommend based on their needs (collecting, playing, investment).
- Process sales through point-of-sale (POS) — including cash, card, and trade-in/sell-back transactions when applicable.
INVENTORY, MERCHANDISING & STORE MAINTENANCE
- Restock shelves, arrange displays, and keep product presentation neat, organized, and secure — especially premium or high-value singles.
- Check and verify conditions of incoming inventory: sealed boxes, singles, accessories; ensure authenticity and quality standards.
- Perform regular inventory counts, handle new shipments, and manage back-stock storage.
- Price products, including individual cards and sealed items, according to condition, rarity, and market trends.
COMMUNITY & EVENT SUPPORT
- Assist with in-store events such as pre-release tournaments, live product “breaks,” trading nights, and community gatherings. (Many TCG shops run events, streams or “breaks” when new boxes release.)
- Help with player registration, pairings, enforcing store or event rules, and ensuring a safe, inclusive environment for players and collectors of all ages.
- Engage with customers to build community — whether casual collectors, competitive players, or hobby-enthusiasts; encourage return visits and loyalty.
ONLINE/MULTI CHANNEL SUPPORT
- Assist with online orders, click-and-collect purchases, and in-store pickups for web customers. (Kaboom offers online shop and in-store pickup)
- Communicate with customers via phone, email or social media (if part of store duties) — especially for special requests, valuations, or pre-order enquiries.
STORE POLICIES & SECURITY
- Monitor store security: especially high-value singles or sealed high-demand items, reduce risk of damage, theft, or shrinkage.
- Maintain general store cleanliness, organize storefront, checkout area, and “play/trade” zones (if present).
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong knowledge or interest in TCGs, and collectibles (ideally including Pokémon TCG.
- Good customer-service and communication skills — able to interact with a wide range of customers (collectors, parents/children, serious hobbyists).
- Basic retail or cashier experience — comfortable with POS systems, handling cash or card sales, trade-ins, and accurate transaction processing.
- Attention to detail — especially in handling, pricing, and verifying condition/authenticity of cards or sealed products.
- Trustworthiness, reliability, and professionalism — since you may handle high-value products and customer valuables.
- Flexibility and comfort working in a busy/high-demand retail environment, possibly with extended hours around new releases or events.
DESIRABLE / BONUS ATTRIBUTES
- Previous experience with trading card games or hobbies (playing, collecting, deck-building).
- Familiarity with secondary market values, grading terminology, and demand/rarity trends.
- Ability to support or run in-store events, tournaments, or community nights.
- Social-media friendly / comfortable interacting with online community.
- Initiative to upsell accessories (binders, sleeves, storage), or recommend “value-add” purchases to customers.
PAY & COMPENSATION
The TCG Retail Associate role at Kaboom offers hourly pay at £13.00 per hour , based on a 40-hour full-time work week .
This equals an estimated annual salary of £27,040 before tax .
Compensation includes:
- £13.00 hourly wage
- Paid weekly or monthly (depending on store policy)
- Full-time schedule: 40 hours per week, typically 5 days
- Overtime opportunities during major product releases or events (subject to business needs)
- Paid breaks in accordance with UK labour rules
- Eligibility for potential store discounts on trading card products, merchandise, and accessories
- Opportunities for advancement into senior retail, inventory management, or events roles as experience grows
This compensation reflects the specialised nature of the role, including knowledge of trading card games, handling high-value collectibles, and supporting community events.
