The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Principal Temporary Works Design Engineer to join the Infrastructure division of an established civil engineering and construction contractor.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Senior or Principal Civil / Structural Engineer with a strong Temporary Works design background who is ready to progress into an Engineering Manager position.

You do not need to be an Engineering Manager already. We are particularly interested in speaking with experienced design engineers who have the technical expertise, confidence and leadership ability to take the next step in their careers.

The successful candidate will lead a small engineering design team while remaining closely involved in Temporary Works design, technical assurance and providing engineering solutions across a range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

Candidates from both engineering consultancies and civil engineering contractors will be considered.

The Role

Lead and support a small engineering design team within the Infrastructure division.

Provide technical engineering support across civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

*

Oversee Temporary Works design, checking and design assurance.

*

Review engineering designs, proposals and technical submissions.

*

Manage Temporary Works design packages and coordinate with external designers.

*

Provide technical advice to project teams and resolve complex engineering challenges.

*

Review Temporary Works procedures and assess Temporary Works Coordinators.

*

Identify engineering risks and develop practical technical solutions.

*

Support value engineering and design development.

*

Work closely with clients, consultants, contractors and project delivery teams.

*

Mentor engineers and support their technical development.

*

Ensure appropriate engineering standards and design checks are maintained.

Requirements

*

Chartered Engineer status (CEng / MICE / MIStructE or equivalent).

*

Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a relevant discipline.

*

Approximately 10–15 years' relevant engineering design experience.

*

Strong Temporary Works design and checking experience.

*

Experience managing Temporary Works design packages for construction contractors.

*

Strong understanding of Temporary Works procedures and design assurance.

*

Background in civil engineering, structural engineering or infrastructure.

*

Ability to review and challenge engineering designs and provide technical solutions.

*

Experience working with contractor, consultancy and client teams.

*

Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills.

*

Experience providing technical guidance or mentoring engineers.

*

Confidence to work independently and take responsibility for technical decisions.

Previous Engineering Manager experience is not essential.
