Role Overview

The Science Technician will support the delivery of practical science lessons by preparing apparatus, materials and solutions in accordance with teachers' requirements. Responsibilities will include maintaining laboratory equipment, monitoring stock levels, organising preparation areas and ensuring that laboratories are safe and ready for use.

The successful candidate will work closely with science teachers and departmental colleagues to ensure that practical activities are prepared efficiently and conducted in accordance with relevant health and safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing equipment, materials and solutions for science lessons.

• Setting up laboratory apparatus for practical experiments and demonstrations.

• Supporting practical activities across Biology, Chemistry and Physics where required.

• Cleaning, maintaining and storing laboratory equipment appropriately.

• Monitoring and replenishing laboratory consumables and supplies.

• Maintaining organised preparation rooms, laboratories and storage areas.

• Ensuring chemicals and other materials are labelled and stored correctly.

• Following relevant health and safety procedures and departmental guidance.

• Assisting with chemical inventories and stock control.

• Checking equipment for damage and reporting faults.

• Supporting safe disposal procedures for laboratory waste.

• Maintaining records relating to equipment, stock and safety checks where required.

• Assisting teaching staff with the safe preparation of practical activities.

• Ensuring laboratory areas are tidy and ready for subsequent lessons.
